I love Spiders, and at Halloween I think cute spiders are best. Today I wanted to show you how you can make your own Spider Costume for your dolls using items you may already have on hand.
To make a Spider costume for your doll you will need:
- black fun foam, paper or felt
- white fun foam, paper or felt
- 10 inches of string, gimp or ribbon
- 4 black pipe cleaners (chenille stems)
- a side plate from the kitchen or dinner plate
- a pen or pencil
Step 1– Turn over your plate onto your black fun foam or paper, use your pencil to trace around it. Cut out the circle. This will be the spider’s body!
Step 2– Cut out two small circles out of your white fun foam or paper for the eyeballs, I cut mine free hand. Then cut two smaller circles out of the black to make the centers of the eyeballs.
Step 3– Use your glue to stick the black eyeball to the white circle as shown. Then place the eyes on your spider body, when you have them where you want, glue them down.
Step 4– Cut out a mouth, I cut out of white some sharp looking teeth, you can do a smile or teeth – it is up to you, then glue it into place.
Step 5– Bend four black pipe cleaners in half as shown above. These will be your spider’s legs. Tape them into place as shown. I used duct tape but you can use scotch tape or masking tape, just use what you have!
Step 6– Bend your spider’s legs as shown, this gives your costume character!
Step 7– Cut out 10 inches of ribbon or gimp and tape it as shown above to the top of your spider body. Slip the ribbon loop over your doll’s head and and she is instantly transformed into a spider!
Today I used my Springfield Doll Olivia as our model. The Trick or Treat bag was made by my friend Skippy’s Mom.
I look forward to sharing more costume crafts and ideas with you next week!
