Karen here and I am so inspired by the new Grace Girl of the year line that American Girl has brought out for 2015 and I thought it would be fun to share a Grace inspired craft with you today! Using items I picked up at the thrift store I was able to create doll skirts and berets for my dolls for less then $5 and NO SEWING REQUIRED!
To make your own you will need:
- A Long sleeved Girls or ladies shirt with a cuff
- A pair of girls jogging pants sized(4-6 work best)
- Glue Gun or Aleene’s Fashion Fusion Tape
- A small plate to trace (A tea cup saucer works best)
- Your Doll
*MAKE SURE YOU HAVE YOUR PARENTS PERMISSION BEFORE YOU CUT UP ANY OF YOUR CLOTHING
Step 1- Make sure you have your parents permission before you cut up any clothing for this project! Assemble your supplies .
Step 2- Slide the arm of the shirt onto your doll. With your eyes figure out where you would like the skirt to end on your doll. I like the look of the long pencil skirt so I made my dolls skirt longer but you can make it the length you would like. Take the sleeve off your doll and use your scissors to cut a straight line and create the bottom hem. Try the skirt on your doll.
For skirt number 2 which was inspired by the Skirt that Grace wears in her Meet outfit.
Step 1- Lay the leg of the pants beside your doll and measure where you would like the bottom of the skirt to be when it is on your doll. Use your scissors to cut straight across the leg of the pants this will be the top of your skirt. Try the skirt on your doll, fold the cut edge under so it appears to have a finished edge.
Step 2- Create a bow and glue it to the front of your dolls skirt.
Pair your skirts with a shirt from your collection and your outfit is almost complete.
To make your doll a no sew beret :
Step 1- Use a small plate like the saucer from a tea cup and place it upside down on the largest piece of left over fabric you have. Use your scissors to rough cut a circle around the fabric. Using some of the left over fabric from either the sleeve or the pants you used cut at 3 inch strip across your fabric creating a circle band.
Step 2- Plug in your glue gun (or use your fabric fusion tape) turn your fabric strip inside out and place your circle fabric through the circle, glue and bunch the fabric circle to the band as you go all the way around, You will have extra circle fabric which you just glue into place. Allow to dry and then turn it right side out. You can place it on your dolls head now.
Step 3- Make another bow and glue it into place on the brim of your beret. Once dry place it on your dolls head. You can tuck the brim of the beret edge in as you see fit.
I hope you enjoyed today’s tutorial and I look forward to sharing more doll play ideas with you again soon!
