Karen here wishing you a very “Cherry Christmas”! I had the most fun creating a “Cherry Christmas” for today’s craft post using Rit Dye and Holiday buttons from Buttons Galore & More. Today I want to show you how easy it is to use Rit Dye to create a Holiday T-shirt and Gift Sack for your Dolls.

To create today’s craft you will need:

  • Rit Dye in Cherry Red
  • 1 Cup of Salt
  • 1 squeeze of liquid dish soap
  • Wet and dry measuring cups
  • 4 cups of hot tap water
  • Rubber Gloves
  • A bucket for dying the t-shirt and bag
  • A White Doll t-shirt  (with your parent’s permission of course!)
  • A small canvas drawstring bag, I used Creatology Canvas Sac that was 5.71Wide  X8.07 inches High, which I found at Micheal’s the craft store
  • A metal spoon
  • A Timer
  • A dryer or line and clothes pegs to dry the t-shirt and bag
  • Buttons Galore & More Holiday Fun Buttons
  • Needle and Thread
  • A Jingle bell
  • Pink or Cherry Colored holiday ribbon for a bow
  • A Cherry colored Gem sticker
  • Scissors
  • A Fabric Marker I used American Girl Fabric Marker in Raspberry

To Dye your t-shirt and bag:

Step 1- Assemble all the items you will need for the dying portion of today’s craft. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU HAVE ADULT SUPERVISION.

In a bucket pour ½ the bottle of Rit Dye, 4 cups of hot tap water, 1 cup of salt, 1 squirt of liquid dish soap. Use your metal spoon to stir all the ingredients together.

Step 2– Put on the Rubber gloves and wet the t-shirt and the bag under the tap with water. Make sure they are soaked through.

Step 3– Place them in your bucket, use the spoon or your glove covered hands to soak and cover your t-shirt and bag.

Step 4– Set your timer. I wanted mine to be a light cherry pinkish red so I set my timer for 8 minutes.

Step 5– Once your timer goes off, you will need to rinse your t-shirt and bag until the color of the water is clear.  Hang dry or use your dryer to dry your items.

Decorating your bag:

Step 1– Create a bow from your ribbon as shown in the photo above. Use a needle and thread to attach a small jingle bell in the center of your bow.

Step 2– Sew that bow to the top right corner of your gift bag as shown in the photos above.

Step 3– Use a fabric marker to write a holiday message. I chose Merry Christmas and used a “button to be the dot over the i”. I sewed a snowflake button to the bag and then attached a gem sticker to the center of the button for some “bling”

Your bag is now ready to be filled with a holiday dolly surprise!

Decorate your t-shirt

Step 1-Lay out your t-shirt and place the buttons where you would like them to be.

Step 2– Sew them into place

Step 3- Place the shirt on your doll and enjoy! You could also add the date with your fabric marker if you wanted to remember the year you made your shirt.

I hope you enjoyed today’s Holiday Craft. I look forward to sharing more holiday craft ideas with you soon!
