Who Was Your First American Girl Doll?

our first american girl dolls

I was just flipping through some pictures looking for something completely different when I came across these pictures from December 2004. Meet Bitty Baby Penelope and American Girl Nicole (GT#3)! They were the first American Girl dolls my girls got. They were Christmas gifts and I could have never imagined the fun, adventures and website that developed as the result of these two dolls!

So, what was your first American Girl (or other brand) doll? How long have you been collecting dolls? How did you get interested in your dolls?

I got my first doll when I was 7 years old and have been collecting them ever since. She was the “just like me doll” that looks just like the one in the picture above.

My dollhouse is halfway done! I’ve painted the bathroom and put up the faux marble (though it keeps falling down. I’ll ask my dad for help), and then I just have one more coat of paint left for the bedroom. And then I have the kitchen, and then we have to build just a few more things. I’ll send in pics ASAP Char!

MY VERY FIRST AMERICAN GIRL DOLL WAS JOSEFINA MONTOYA. I GOT HER WHEN I WAS 8 YEARS OLD. I BELIEVE THAT THEY ARE GOING TO BE RETIRING HER BECAUSE OF THE NEW DOLL, CAROLINE. I HOPE THAT’S NOT THE CASE BECAUSE NOW I HAVE TO GO RUN AND BY A BACKUP JOSEFINA DOLL BECAUSE I KNOW THAT I WILL NEVER SEE HER AGAIN, IN THIS LIFETIME. MAYBE ANOTHER

  9. When I was about 11 I got Samantha (I am now 34, so she has been around for a while) and I gave her to my daughter for Christmas when she was 4! Now my daughter loves her American Girl dolls!

I loved the American Girl catalogs that I received in my 20′s, and I saw my first American Girl, Josefina, while working in a christian bookstore and going to college. My first doll wasn’t until a few years later though. It was a Gotz brunette doll I bought off of ebay in 2001 and named her Katherine Elizabeth. I bought glasses to put on her as Molly, and lots of colonial clothes handmade to make her Felicity’s friend, Elizabeth.

I considered between Josefina, Felicity, and Kirsten and decided on Felicity a few years later, when almost none of her collection was available.
I got her in the original outfit and pieced together some outfits from ebay. A year or two later, they redid her collection and I bought most of her clothes and accessories and the blonde Elizabeth. For a 4th doll, I bought Jess but didn’t really like a today doll, so sold her and bought Molly, but Molly looked too much like Katie so I sold her. I sold Elizabeth last year to pay bills and also because I realized that all along, it was Josefina I wanted besides my Katie and Felicity!

So my collection is: Katie Elizabeth , my first 18″ doll from 2001
Felicity Anne, my first AG from around 2003-2004
Lydia Margaret, my newest 18″ doll, a blonde haired, blue green eyed gotz I found on ebay for 18.00!

We got the first catalogue in 1986 when AG first came out. I was in 7th grade so my mom thought I was too old. I told her that when I half a daughter, I wanted to get one. Fast forward twenty years and my husband surprised me with Ruthie for Christmas the year my oldest daughter got her first doll ( a just like you with brown eyes and brown hair ). I was so excited to finally get an AG doll that I cried. I have since added myAG # 41(red curly hair) sand Marie-Grace. My daughter has added Elizabeth and McKenna. My youngest daughter git her first 18″ doll last year (the doll with honey hair and hazel eyes) who she named Mimi but was known as the doll with the buns because of her hair.

My first American Girl was Kirsten. While I have wanted her since I was small (8-9 years old), I did not get her until about 2 years ago. She was bought at a local doll store and had only a few things to her, but I didn’t mind one bit. I had the doll I had wanted since I first saw American Girl. The only things now not default with her are her bloomers, socks, and boots. Since then I have gotten Marie-Grace and hopefully this Christmas Caroline will be added.

  20. Venus says:

My first doll was Kanani! I got her last year, of course. :P It’s funny because when I was younger, I was more interested in the American Girl magazines and books than the actual dolls. Now that I’m older, I’m so glad I’ve become more interested in the dolls. I started discovering them around late 2010, early 2011, and that was when I realized Kanani would be a great first doll for me. I now have 8 dolls, and I absolutely love each and every one of them. I do wish I had Marisol, GOTY 2005, but my mind was somewhere else back in 2005, lol.

My first American girl doll is a girl of today I got in 1997. She has dark skin and light brown eyes. I have been collecting dolls my whole life and want to own a doll museum.
