The book summaries according to Amazon:
Girl of the Year 2015 Book 1 – Grace by Mary Casanova, illustrated by Sarah Davis
Nine-year-old Grace is always thinking up big ideas, like starting a business with her friends over the summer! When Mom announces a trip to Paris instead, Grace gets on board, but it quickly seems as if none of her plans are working out the way she’d hoped. She and her French cousin aren’t getting along, and Grace’s friends back home have started a business without her. Can she find the courage to stay open to new ideas and turn the summer around?
Girl of the Year 2015 Book 2 – by Mary Casanova, illustrated by Sarah Davis
Back home in Massachusetts, GOTY is excited to start a new French baking business with her friends, and to have an adorable new dog to train, too! But she quickly learns that both the business and the dog are big responsibilities, especially when her energetic pup has difficulty adjusting to her new home. GOTY does her best to give her pet what she needs to be happy. Can she also help her friends blend their unique talents, and whip up a recipe for a successful business?
Girl of the Year 2015 Book 3 – When GOTY learns that her grandparents’ bakery might be closing after 30 years, she’s crushed. She can’t imagine her life (or her hometown) without the bakery. And how can her own business survive if the one that inspired her cannot? GOTY wonders if she and her friends can find a way to help the bakery using their talents and newfound business skills. Can three girls really make a difference? GOTY is determined to try.
So, it’s still VERY early in the year and we are still having fun with the American Girl of the Year 2014 – Isabelle, but we always seem to want to know what is coming next! While there is nothing OFFICIAL from American Girl about the GOTY 2015 yet (and there won’t be for quite a while), a few clues are starting to emerge.
As American Girl has done with the past few GOTY characters, the 2015 GOTY will have a movie. When you make a movie, you have to cast that movie and that requires AUDITIONS! Thanks to some great sleuthing from Rhonda and Bee, they have found some information on the casting calls and even some of the audition videos.
According to the information Rhonda has collected from Backstage.com, IMDB, and the audition videos, the GOTY has a CODE NAME (note, this will NOT be her real name) of Coco and they will begin filming in Budapest in July. “Coco” has two friends – Maddy who is an artist and Ella is a math whiz. They need to help Coco’s grandparents save their ice cream shop business. Again, this is what was released for the purposes of the film AUDITION.
As we get more information, we will share it – but only after we can confirm it using publicly shared links like these. The next thing I expect we will see are the book titles (or their placeholders) showing up on Amazon and other book seller web sites. It will be a few more months before any photos of the GOTY 2015 come out.
In the meantime, enjoy Isabelle! Her movie will be out this summer and whether you think it is going to be awesome or so-so, enjoy it and be thankful that American Girl and other doll companies are investing the time and money to extend doll play and provide girl-friendly books and movies.
