University of Alabama Cheerleader Barbie

If you are Barbie collector, I highly recommend joining the Barbie Fan Club! The membership fee is about $25 but you get a gift – this year it was a silkstone dress form and you get a $20 credit every quarter. In June I realized I had not used my $20 credit yet and now that my older daughter Megan has transitioned from being a competitive gymnast to being a cheerleader for her high school, what better doll to get for her than the new University of Alabama Cheerleader Barbie?

University of Alabama Cheerleader Barbie

Isn’t she pretty? She looks so much like my daughter Megan – it is just perfect – and for $4.95 after applying my Barbie Fan Club credit, I just had to add to her her collection.

I took the Barbie out of her box in order to take photos without too much glare, but slid it back into the box when I was done. This new line of University Barbies are actually pretty neat – the have four universities represented – University of Alabama, Louisiana State University, Auburn University and Arkansas University.  And another cool factoid is that they brought back some older face molds that have not been used in a while for these dolls, too.

Part of me wishes Megan would take her out of her box and pose her on her stand, but she is a pretty die-hard collector and leaves most of her dolls in their boxes. I’m surprised she even let me take the inner box out for the photos.

The University Barbies are perfect for collectors and as gifts for students, alumni and fans. These will be popular and I am sure Mattel will add more universities to the list soon.

She’s pretty BUT….. WAR EAGLE!!! Yeah, I’m a die hard Auburn fan. The rivalry here in Alabama is brutal. I want to look up the Auburn one! This one is very pretty though. Like the new/old face mold!

Char, if I’m not mistaken, that body mold looks like the classic body meaning the bustline should measure about 5 1/2 inches? Can you humor me and measure it? Sounds like an odd request but I make Barbie clothes too and it’s interesting to know whether Mattel is actually using the older body molds again. I have to have people tell me when they order whether their doll is a classic body or the newer which measures anywhere from 4 1/2 around the bustline to 5 inches. It’s especially nuts if I’m trying to fit a strapless gown, body size really matters there–I don’t want it to have a wardrobe malfunction. Thanks!

She is perfect. Many collectors complain about the use of belly button body (1999) and their playline look but I think they are all great.:) I hope they will add more universities (Linda confirmed it during chat) but I still afraid of their cancelation because they are not popular among collectors who would prefer model msue of pivotal bodies.:(

  18. Char says:

Tari – I will measure her this evening for you.

  19. Mary says:

I want to start collecting barbie. Any advice on how to start? I don’t want my parents to think I’m too old. (Born 2000)

  22. Char says:

Maddie – my daughter who is 13 collects Barbies. She is very specific about the ones she wants – like the new University series, the designer fashion lines and the holiday Barbies. I recommend picking ones that you can relate to first.
