Last week I shared information about an event American Girl is holding in stores across the nation in celebration of the Girl of the Year, Isabelle. The event is called Truly You. One of our readers, Jessica, took her daughter Tori to the event and here is her report.
I took my daughter, Tori (and her Isabelle) to the Truly U event at Barnes & Noble this past weekend. It was a nice little event. While I did put Tori on the list ahead of time, our Barnes and Noble was not too crowded.
They provided Tori with a packet that had a few activities. One was where you wrote yourself a letter and used as many positive words as you could about yourself. Then they had a quiz on there and a draw your own portrait activity. Later, the girls got to make personalized frames. The Barnes and Noble person encouraged the girls to make up a motto to put in the frame.
When the event was over, the girls got a ‘goal journal’, Isabelle poster, and they could pick out an historical character bookmark. The goal journal helps girls make up a goal, set a time limit and plan how to celebrate when they reach the goal. It came with stickers that had some ideas for goals and girls could make up some on their own.
It was a nice event. I really liked how we did not have to go all the way to the American Girl store to do it (we live about an hour and forty-five minutes from ours). This event is definitely more geared towards girls 8 and up, but if you do take a younger girl, be prepared to help her. Barnes and Noble was very nice about letting everyone participate that wanted to. They are also having an Isabelle giveaway at each store. You can go there anytime to put in for the drawing. All in all, we were happy to go and it was nice Mommy/Daughter time. I hope they do something again soon.
Thanks Jessica and Tori for sharing these photos and giving us more insight as to what to expect at a Truly You event!
