One of the reasons we love dolls is that they encourage creativity. One of the new doll lines I discovered at Toy Fair this year encourages creativity and makes it irresistibly fun, too. Locksies, from toy company Bandai, let girls be the designer of their own doll fashions and doll interior designs using pieces of fabric and trim combine with their unique back groove and special locking tool.
Meet Rikki, Mikki, Elli and Kari. Four wide eyed friends who stand about 6″ tall, have a passion for fashion and will be in stores later this year.
The premise behind Locksies is that girls can design outfits of their own by layering fabrics and trims and then securing them in the back of the doll using a unique locking system. The photo above is the first wave of the dolls and they will retail for $9.99.
The front of the box show the doll – in this case Mikki – the fabric and trim as well as her accessories.
The back of the box shows just a few of the possible combinations you can create by mixing and matching fabrics and trims. No scissors, glue or sewing is required!
This is the second wave (if I recall correctly) and the Locksies are ready for a night out. Even their locking tool looks fancy.
Who can resists pets who dress up, too? Which pet is your favorite? I honestly can’t pick.
Okay, maybe I can. How sweet is the panda? The Locksies pants are regular pull on pants for the dolls – they do not use the locking system.
Not only do the Locksies love fashion by they are budding Interior Designers, too! This room playset includes the doll and all the pieces, fabric and embellishments to create a room for your doll. I know this could keep many girls busy for hours coming up with new combinations.
Here is a closer look at the bedroom decorated. You use the locking tool to make everything from the perfect doll curtains to the doll bed.
There will be additional pieces that you can use to expand your Locksies living space like the chair and lamp – both of which are customizable.
And finally, what girl doesn’t want a car that transforms into a vanity that you can then decorate to fit your style.
Like I said, Locksies are not yet in store, but you can get to know the characters at the Locksie’s website and they have some printable coloring pages on there as well.
What do you think? I think Locksies are definitely ones to watch this year. I am looking forward to them being in stores soon.
