So, you all may know Tonner Dolls as the very amazing collectible fashion dolls, but last year at Toy Fair we got a glimpse of Tonner’s new 18″ doll line. Last year what we saw were prototypes and I am happy to say that this year the ones we saw are available for sale!! The line is called My Imagination and it is meant to inspire play and creativity as these are meant to be play dolls.
The basic dolls come in their simple polka dot meet dresses and sell for $79.99 – very reasonable for a doll of this quality if you ask me! Right now the blonde, brunette and red head are available for sale – the sweet little African American doll is still a prototype and will hopefully be ready this fall.
A closer look at the African American cutie. The prototype from last year looked a little different – I happen to really like the short hair and wait until you see how cute she looks in some of the new licensed outfits Tonner has in the works. (Yes, I saw them, no, I was not allowed to photograph them, yes, you will LOVE them.)
Of the three dolls that are currently available for sale, I think the brunette is my favorite – especially wearing her licensed Wonder Woman outfit. Currently there are six outfits available for purchase ranging in price from $29.99 to $39.99. These outfits should fit other 18″ play doll brands. I just received the brunette doll and one of the outfits to do a full review – I will definitely do some wardrobe swapping with other brands so you can see how they fit the dolls you may already have.
This may very well be one of my favorite photos I took this year at Toy Fair. Aren’t the shape of her eyes just so beautiful? The first wave of these dolls have non-removable wigged hair and almond shaped eyes that do not close. The long eyelashes are just gorgeous.
Super Girl, Dorothy and Glinda are three more licensed outfits that are currently available. And of course I have a soft spot in my heart for the little red head! The braided wig on “Dorothy” is coming soon and will be one that will fit a variety of 18″ dolls.
Any “Wicked” fans? The “Flying High” and “On a Bubble” outfits are fun, modern interpretations of Elphaba and Glinda’s costumes. We have Flying High to review – so look forward to a “Who Wore It Best” post featuring it coming in the near future.
The Gone with the Wind gown for 18″ dolls is another licensed product in the works for later this year. Like I said earlier, there are more cute outfits in the works – awaiting final approval from the license partners. Let’s just say I think some of you will be very happy to add these outfits to your doll wardrobes.
What do you think? Do you have any questions? I will be doing a more detailed review of the brunette doll in the coming weeks.
