Not too long ago a few of our readers had seen this new Simplicity pattern by Cupcake Cutie Pie in fabric stores like Joann and had asked who makes the dolls who were used as the models. While we were at Toy Fair last month we got a chance to see the models up close – they are Starpath Dolls. The dolls were on loan for the pattern photo shoot.
Starpath Dolls are a unique line of dolls that come with a code that you can then use to customize a story book where your girls can star in her own adventure. The dolls are 18″ tall, have soft bodies and vinyl limbs, inset eyes and beautiful faces designed by award winning doll artist, Linda Mason. At the time of Toy Fair, the Starpath Dolls had not gone into production yet – so the photos below are of PROTOTYPE dolls. In talking with the owner Anita and the doll artist Linda, I found out that they are still deciding if the dolls will be wigged or if they will have rooted hair.
The Starpath Dolls do not have traditional girl names, rather they have star inspired names. You can then rename the doll as you wish. This is Wandering Star. According to the Starpath press release, her curiosity always leads her on an exploration of new things to learn and exciting discoveries. Silly and mischievous she always finds hidden treasures and many amazing wonders.
This one is Morning Star, shines so bright, her smile lights up the sky. She’s happy and fun in every way and ready for any adventure that comes her way.
A closer look at the detailing in the doll’s face. I think she has pretty eyes.
Meet Wishing Star – Tell this friend all your dreams and secrets. Life is full of new opportunities and adventures and she is a friend you can trust with all your ideas.
It will be very interesting to see the final post-production version of these dolls – if they get the hair right, they could be a very nice addition to the 18″ doll options.
This is Shining Star – bubbly and playful, makes friends wherever she goes. With her twinkling laugh and loyal ways she can be counted on for a great time and amazing memories that last.
Of the four dolls, I think I like Shining Star best.
The two stories that you will be able to choose from for customization are:
- “A Fairy Tale Gone Wrong” Written by award-winning author Suzanne Williams, who has written nearly 40 books for children, in this chapter book, the girl and her friend find themselves accidently trapped inside the Cinderella story. It is up to them to keep the story on track so Cinderella will wind up with her prince and they can return home safely. Recommended for ages 5 -8 years old.
- “Tiger Magic” Written by award-winning author, Mitali Perkins, “Tiger Magic” is an adventure story where the child and her doll friend find themselves on a magical adventure in the jungles of India. After learning about life in an Indian village, it is up to them to protect a tiger cub from poachers. Recommended for ages 5 – 9 years old.
In addition to the dolls, there are two pets you will be able to purchase – a swan to go with the fairy tale book and a tiger to go with the Tiger Magic story.
Like I said before, these dolls are scheduled for production this spring, but I have not heard a definitive answer as to when they will actually be available for purchase or where. I will keep you posted!
