Barbie and The White House Project

March 3, 2010 by Char · 8 Comments

Barbie has teamed up with The White House Project to inspire and ignite a movement to inspire a future generation of women leaders. The declaration reads:

We believe that when you add women and girls, you change everything.
We are leaders and dreamers.
We are the future.
And, we want help making positive change –
for ourselves and the world around us.
This declaration calls on everyone in the Obama Administration to:

Become a mentor this year.
We need role models who can show us that no dream is too big or too wild.
If we can dream it, we can do it.
If we can imagine it, we can be it.

Look at the world through our eyes.
We ask President Obama to take a moment to consider how every piece of legislation may affect girls and women before he signs it.

Ignite a national movement to inspire girls.
On April 22nd, we ask The Administration to accept this Declaration from
us powerful girls and women at a proposed ceremony celebrating
“Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day.”
Make sure your voice – and dreams – are heard by signing now.

You can get involved, too – start by signing the online petition:

Charlie’s Angels Kelly Doll Gift Set

January 23, 2010 by Char · 8 Comments

Ok, I’ll admit it, I grew up in the 70s and watched more than my fair share of Charlie’s Angels episodes on TV featuring characters Jill Munroe, Sabrina Duncan, and Kelly Garrett .  The three iconic characters are have been brought back as Kelly® dolls, wearing fashions from the 70s, sporting feathered hair ala Farah Fawcett, and looking too cute for words!

These are definitely for adult collectors and are not for play. I love how Mattel has used the Kelly line to capture pop culture icons. Some of my other favorites include:

Twilight Dolls

October 14, 2009 by Char · 29 Comments

The first Twilight saga movie was a huge hit and with the second movie in the saga, New Moon tickets on sale now, I’m sure we will see even more Twilight memorabilia being sold. The Tonner doll company has created a Twilight doll line that is geared toward the collector with prices of  $100 or more for each character doll. Barbie is releasing their version of the Twilight characters Bella and Edward at a much more affordable price around $30 each.  Or you can have fun with the Neca Twilight character action figures – oh my! I’m sure that true Twilight fans will find one of the three options to their liking.

Another sign that the Twilight saga has gained a sizable following – they have released Twilight Scene It? Game – perfect for a Twilight movie party!

Here are the different Twilight doll collections – click on the images for pricing and details. Most of the Twilight dolls are limited in stock as everything is going fast!

Barbie Glamour Happy Meal Toys

Barbie Happy Meal toys - glamour

Barbie makes regular appearances in the McDonald’s Happy Meals – usually as mini dolls – but right now Barbie glamour accessories are being featured.  Clockwise from the top left there is a bracelet set, mini jewelry box with a ring inside, purse that opens up to a notebook (cute), lip gloss compact, notebook clutch that opens to hold cute note paper and stickers, and a mirror compact with a comb.

These are not my favorite Barbie Happy Meal toys, with the exception of the two notebooks – they are super cute. On the Happy Meal site you can get extras like a Barbie coloring page, desktop wall paper and more to go with this series.

Coming up next – Build a Bear Happy Meal toys.

New Barbie Line “So In Style”

August 7, 2009 by Char · 16 Comments

Mattel has launched a new line of African American Barbie dolls that are inspired by designer Stacy McBride-Irby. The dolls are a direct spin off of the Barbie and Grace story and are meant to give girls another set of smart, sassy and fashionable “role models”.  From the Barbie Collector web site:

As told by designer Stacey McBride-Irby, the So In Style™ story revolves around Grace™, who was friends with Barbie® in Malibu before moving away to Chicago, where she met Trichelle™ and Kara™, her new BFFs. There, they began to mentor young girls in their community – Courtney®, Janessa™, and Kianna®.

“I want them to be examples to real girls,” says McBride-Irby, “but I wanted to make sure they had an aspirational theme also, that moms will hone in on.” Each pair comes with accessories that reflect their interests – math and music, drill team and science, art and journalism. Read more

June 25, 2009 by Char · 38 Comments

Bella and Edward Twilight Movie Barbie dolls

The Twilight movie phenomenom is coming to the Barbie collection. Toys “R” Us will being selling exclusive Bella and Edward “Barbie and Ken” dolls in October 2009. The Canadian TRU already has the dolls available for pre-sale but they won’t ship until late November.

Characters Bella Swan and Edward Cullen are dressed in their trademark outfits and they have done a great job with making the Edward doll’s skin tone and facial features true to the movie character.

What do think of them? I think they are gorgeous and would be a must for true Twilight fan or movie doll collection.

UPDATE: Not only are there Barbie Bella and Edward dolls, Tonner and Neca have released their collections, too. You can see them all here.

Barbie and the Three Musketeers

June 17, 2009 by Char · 16 Comments

Barbie has a new movie coming out on DVD September 15, 2009 – Barbie and the Three Musketeers. Barbie and her friends become the first girl musketeers and are tasked with SAVING the PRINCE – how’s that for some modern day positive girl power messaging?

The synopsis from the official press release reads:

Corinne(TM) (Barbie(TM)) is a sixteen year-old-girl who dreams of going to Paris to become a Musketeer, one of the protectors of the Royal Family. Once at the palace, Corinne(TM) works under the tutelage of three beautiful maids: Viveca(TM), Renee (TM), and Aramina(TM). While at the palace, she notices strange things, like accidents, happening and she’s worried the Prince and his family may be in danger. With ninja-quick reflexes, each girl shifts into a defensive pose with improvised weapons: a necklace, fans, measuring tape, and hairpins. Together they discover that the prince’s Advisor and his personal army are plotting to get rid of the prince and the royal family. The four girls try to tell the head of the Musketeers about the evil plot but no one believes them. Corinne(TM) and her friends are able to foil the plot of the villains through and save the Prince. The royal family is grateful to them and declares all four girls to be true Musketeers.

Universal Home Entertainment is also doing a promotion/contest for a trip to LA in conjunction with the movie’s release:

Look to see if you’re a winner! Every DVD includes a Barbie(TM) Pink Ticket Party Instant Win Game piece, with the chance to win the coolest prizes. You could win a trip to LA to the ultimate Barbie(TM) party, Barbie(TM) shopping sprees, toys, and much more! No purchase necessary. (For alternate means of entry and to read all the rules, go to Barbie.com/pinkticketparty. Valid between 7/1/09-1/30/10. Open to legal residents of the United States between 3 and 12 years of age. Void where prohibited.)

I’m sure it will be a hit with the younger set (4-8 year olds) and I’m sure it will be on my daughter’s request list.
