Everyone has been saying the the new American Girl of the Year for 2012, McKenna, looks a lot like the MyAG #39. My daughter got the MyAG #39 for Christmas and one of her best friends just got McKenna this week. She brought McKenna over today for a quick photo shoot before swim practice.
Once I got to hold McKenna and stand her next to Calista (MyAG #39), I immediately saw more differences than anything else.
- McKenna’s skin tone is paler than MyAG #39
- They have different face molds
- Their mouths are completely different
The color of their hair is definitely similar, but I think McKenna’s is a little lighter – and much longer than Calista’s.
From the side you can really see the differences in their faces – especially in the cheeks, chin and mouth. Yes, they both look like the come from the same doll family, but each one is unique – just like every one of us!
Now that Natalie has seen McKenna I would be surprised if she doesn’t start saving for her, too! We may just have to take another trip to the American Girl store later in the year and pick out that perfect McKenna. In the mean time, the rest of our dolls are having a blast working out on McKenna’s bars and beam. Look for more photos tomorrow!

Really, the only thing they have alike is their coloring. I think the complexion, hair, and eye (if there are any differences) have differences just as different lots of the same dolls differ. They are of the same coloring.
McKenna is Chrissa or Elizabeth with a different wig, but even then, there are complexion coloring and eye variation even as all Chrissas and all Elizabeths are not alike.

I’m wearing my hair like McKenna right now! I think its weird how American Girl relased McKenna an Marie-Grace in the same year and they look so much alike. And their names both start with M.

MAG #39 has tanner skin compared to most of the other dolls.
I meant to get Emily in those pictures too!! I will take more pictures next week when she comes over again.

For my birthday insted i might ask for MAG Josie mold, Short blond hair, brown eyes, for Julie’s twin. And i want to get the weelchair for her. If i get her… what about these names? Kendall, Julia, Logan, or Cassie. which do you like best?

Erica- I like the name Logan or Kendall. I wouldn’t name her Julia if it’s going to be her twin but that’s just my opinion. Name her whatever you like!

Mckenna should have had purple eyes random but it would be beutiful. To similar to me. Girl of the years have looked diffrent and unique until Chrissa came back with #39′s wig. She also looks like Elizabeth

Yeah, I definitely found a lot of differences between the two. I just got Mckenna two days ago, and I absolutely love her.
Melody, some people actually do have purple eyes, thought it’s very rare. I’d like it if Mckenna had purple eyes, too.

My daughter has the MAG doll with Carmel hair, light skin and blue eyes. The McKenna doll is way to similar. Same hair and eye color. Hair only slightly longer. I see the slight chin difference, and longer hair. Not enough difference to spend money on another AG doll. Sad, as she has collected the doll of the year for 3 years now. And she is a gymnist – VERY DISAPOINTED!
