UPDATE: A new historical doll is on its way. According to American Girl, girls who are on the 25th anniversary cruise will be introduced to the new historical doll:
New Historical Character Event
Your girl can be one of the first to enjoy this in-depth introduction to the newest addition to our historical character line. The event gives girls the chance to discover more about the stories, find out what it was like growing up in that time, and create crafts inspired by the era. For guests ages 8 and up.
So, does that mean those on the cruise will be the first to have the opportunity to buy her? Will she be released in time for Christmas 2011? Or will they be getting a sneak peak for the doll to be released in 2012? What do you think?

Though my updates have been few and far between lately, don’t be alarmed. These lack of updates are not due to a lack of work. In fact, they are due to a surplus. For the past seven months, I have been working on a long term freelance job with the one and only American Girl Company. I am in the process of Illustrating not only my first book, but my first series of books! The details are very hush hush at the moment. But I can tell you, its going to be BIG. I still have another six months of painting before the project is finished, and the books are set to be released in June 2011. I’ll give you more info when I can. In the meantime, I’m sorry for the lack of new paintings being posted on here. Keep an eye out, though, new stuff is on the way.

My son and his girlfriend are “models” for adult characters in an upcoming American Girl book featuring a new doll in 2011. Their friend is the illustrator for a few of the upcoming books-a project she has been working on for over a year! From what they tell me(its super “hush=hush”) -its a Western theme book/Doll
So, what do you think? Is this Denise or Sarah? Or have you found out anything more in your research?
I’d like to remind everyone that none of this has been confirmed and there is no way of knowing whether the message board post is credible or related to the announcement from the illustrator.
Alexis, those names are rumored for her because of the IBSN for a 6 book series for both girls. No one knows who they are or what project Christine Kornaki’s working one, be it GOTY, Historical, or a different AG series.

Random question: what do you want the next GOTY to be?
A music oriented girl. I don’t care if she’s classical or rock star or a bit of both.
A blind girl. Or some disability. I would love an AG book in Braille, and dealing with a disability could show girls that disabled people aren’t really different. Or something like that.
A girl trying to find the balance between what’s considered “girly” and “boyish”.
I other news, my dad bought me a new 500$ computer. He put it on a slippery chair, it fell. I am so mad right now.
i know they are retiring molly this year the first dolls they made were molly kirsten and samantha they already retired samantha and kirsten so molly is next in my next vid on youtube i will include more info on april 30 or sooner check for more info

I want next goty to be a girl who plays violin or piano,but she doesn’t think she’s ever going to be
“perfect” at it. I think it will be cute collection,although she should have some fancy dresses because she SHOULD be in the concert in her second book or maybe even in first.
Maybe she’ll have:
*?????? Doll&Book
*Accessories
*Violin set(of course! UNLESS she plays piano).
*Pajamas
*Practice outfit(I know,no one really has a practice outfit for playing piano or violin,but still)
*Extra outfit,maybe?
*Concert outfit
AND I am NOT sure about accessories or furniture.

Those suggestions are great, Jessie and Lena! Lena, you should give those ideas to your cousin who works for AG, and then… oh, that would be AWESOME!
AG’s very clear that they don’t want customer suggestions, but I’ve hinted theses to my cousin. My cousin hardly ever listens to me, but my ideas this time are vague enough to work, hopefully. I really want the disabled girl especially, but I’m doubtful AG will tackle this issue.
Also, I’d just like to point out that my cousin works in AGT/JLY, and has nothing really to do with GOTY production.

If I had to speculate on what the doll could be, maybe it would be a French immigrant family? Denise is a French name. I would love to see a Chinese AG doll, but I doubt either of these would be that. If you look at French immigration to the US and what the French have contributed to the culture, I could see that happening. Also, the French immigrants that came to America didn’t generally come due to financial hardship, so many skilled artisans and such came which would be convenient to be able to have the doll have nice accessories. Western theme…..maybe around the gold rush? Just hypothesizing:) I can’t wait to see what it is!!

Lol – I know Ivy is Chinese, but I’m talking about one of the main characters that the books are written about. Each of the historical AG dolls is about a specific era and culture and teaches girls all about that time and or culture. Ivy is a much more modern doll (though I love her!!). I’d love to see a doll based on Chinese immigration – there’s a lot of possibilities for gripping stories and intriguing accessories for a doll. I have to admit that I really like the dolls for the older eras, like Felicity and Addy and Kirsten. I was so sad when they retired Samantha!
Now I know what you are talking about I would want one of those. I am sad about Samtha too.

I wolud like an american girl doll with autisim. Like me. It would show girls that they are just different not crazy. Kids are allways making fun of me because i am a doll collector and they think I am ugly.And maybe like Lanie american girl can par up Austim Speaks or another oranization to fight austim and maybve doll and girl shirts too like Lanie.

Alyssa, I have MS (my so called friends abandoned me when I was diagnosed), so I’d love a disabled girl for the same reasons you would. To show people that we’re not crazy or going to infect them.
I’m sorry about you, Lena. I wish we could not be judged just because we’re “Different.” It’s kind of like bullying……… and racism. Does anyone have tips with loose teeth? I posted something about it on the New Look page. It’s bugging me like CRAZY!
I think a doll bringing awareness about a handicap would be a wonderful idea! What if that’s why there are two new dolls? What if one were a modern “today” doll and was bringing about information about handicaps and the organizations involved in helping them and the other was a historical doll? It would assist learning on two fronts. It’s amazing how many people with disabilities are out there, but so few people know about them. My nephew is autistic. I think getting the right information out there is vital.

Out of ten historicals, there are 5 that are spaced out between the 1700′s and 1800′s. The last two historical dolls were both 1900′s. I want something earlier, that’s more historical!
Also, 50′s in fashion were not very different from the 40′s, so we probably won’t see a 50′s girl until after Molly’s in the archive plottong revenge on Mattel.
I`m hoping that it is either a 1920`s flapper girl, or a 1880`s western girl. Although my favorite choice would be a 1920`s flapper girl. A lot of people are saying since wheb Samantha retired they put Rebecca in for 1914 because it is just one decade away from Samantha`s time so now they are saying that the new historical will be one decade before Kirsten or one decade after Kirsten. I don`t think that is true because it was just a quincidance (don`t think I spelled that right) that Rebecca was 1 decade after Samantha. Really hoping for that flapper girl or a western girl. I can already see outfits for the 1920`s flapper girl.

Flappers were not people you wanted to be in the 1920′s. They did innapropriate things, they did illegal things, and they were looked down upon by most people. A ten year old would have NEVER been a flapper.

I think those are the new historicals. That’s the mini doll shelf, and the best friend aren’t going to be made in mini holiday form. That, and the silhouettes are pretty balnd for the last two.
