This is a guest post from long-time reader, Cordelia.
I have been inspired by all of the creative ideas for dollhouse decorating posted on Doll Diaries. I would love to have an actual dollhouse for my 18 inch dolls, but have neither the budget or the space right now. However, I’ve had a lot of fun creating a low cost and easy- to- store room for Rose.
The daybed (Rose and Katherine can share Katherine’s big bed for sleeping) is simply the box Rose came in covered with a fleece blanket. Katherine (with a little help from me) made the cushions and the curtains following Karen’s instructions. The idea for the mirror came from Brandy.
Rose is a huge ‘Hello Kitty’ fan so I splurged on this dresser (jewelry box) from Michael’s using my 40% off coupon. The room’s walls are foam board and I bought the stickers on sale at Michael’s.\
Rose really likes having a pretty place for her jewelry and other small items.
Katherine’s favourite spot is the reading nook. The little bookcase is the container for a craft kit from ‘Melissa and Doug Toys’. This bookcase is a very versatile prop. The bulletin board and many of the accessories are from dollar bins (or less) at a variety of stores. Like so many in the Doll Diaries community, I’m always on the lookout for bargains that can be repurposed for my dolls. The Springfield folding chair was bought with another 40 % off coupon.
In this overview of the room, we can see that Rose’s puppy likes to curl up on the cozy rug (a placemat). Most items, including all of the bedding, the bookcase, rug, and the accessories can all be packed away in the box that Rose came in and the walls fit behind a dresser. I had a lot of fun creating this room and the dolls have great times playing in it!
Thank you Cordelia for sending this in. It is always fun to see how creative our reader’s get and we can all inspire each other!
