Retired American Girl Items – What Is Your Favorite?

I was flipping through one of my daughter’s old American Girl catalogs the other day and came across the American Girl Tennis & Golf Set. All I could say was, “How cute is this and how did we miss this one?” Of course, now I am bidding on one on Ebay, because I just HAVE to have it. I hope American Girl is planning on coming out with a new version of the outfit in the near future.

So, today’s question… What retired item – outfit, furniture or accessory – do you wish you would have gotten when it was available or wish American Girl would release a new version of?

  1. Madeline says:

    Molly???? A brat????? I don’t think so.

  2. Lena says:

She does start out pretty selfish and bratty, but manages to loose her attitude sometime in her Birthday book.

  3. Sara says:

I personally agree with Madeline (I like ur name btw!) Molly never really was a brat, she just didn’t like the changes that were happening in her family and they were happening so fast she felt over whelmed. I’m not trying to be mean or put anyone down, I’m just saying how I feel about Molly.

  4. Mallory says:

Whoa, whoa, whoa!!! Molly’s not a brat….why do you think that???

  5. Ana says:

Molly was annoying in Meet Molly, I’m sure she is happy in the last book. Didn’t her dad come home in the last book???????

  6. Lena says:

In the first few books Molly acted like the war was just a big distubance to her life, like she was the only one that really mattered. To be fair, most 9-10 year olds probably did act like that at first, until they found out how bad the war was for others.

  7. Madeline says:

*Thinks back to when I read Meet Molly*

Hmm….I don’t know…I admit she was a little selfish in parts of the series, such as when Emily came, but overall she was a nice girl, and remeber she was put in very hard situations.

Thanks Sara! I like that name too!

  8. Madeline says:

Oh and when I said THAT name, I meant YOUR name, Sara! :)

  9. Sara says:

    Aww.. Thanks Madeline!!

Oh and AG is gonna be on QVC today!!!!

  10. Jenny says:

Although her books are VERY new to me, I agree with you guys. I’m sure Molly was just put in VERY hard situations, Her Dad’s in War and she’s worried by him. I bet she was also worried about Emily too.

  11. Jessica says:

I don’t really like the Molly series. I read them a few years & I didn’t like ‘em.

  12. nicki says:

the scarlet snow outfit is my fave retired outfit

  13. Ava says:

I agree, it would be hard to be in that kind of situation. That kind of change would be rough on anyone. Not seeing your dad for two or three years? Having to give up certain foods? Sharing your room with a stranger? No one could immediately accept that.

  14. Ana says:

My Doll Diaries name will change.

  15. Audra says:

I have this strange feeling that American Girl is moving to 20th century dolls and dolls of today. I think that means that they will eventually retire Kaya, Addy, and Josephina, and make a doll of the 1920′s, 1950′s, and 1960′s. It seems that they don’t think that girls of today care about the past or high quality items. More and more is being made of cheap plastic, even though the prices aren’tgoing down any…
and dolls of the 20th century can have cheaper accessories. So sad! They could have more races represented in the 20th century too, I guess.

I’m just really bummed that Felicity and Elizabeth are going. I started collecting her back when AG stopped selling most of her items the 1st time, and had quite a time finding items on ebay. Then they released a huge, wonderful collection that my niece and I loved and collected some. Now, gone again. I never did get her summer accessories, summer hat and shoes, town fair outfit, her bed or her table and chairs. I had her nighttime necessities and book, but had to sell them to pay bills and regret it a bit.

  16. Meg says:

I did not read mollys books so i cant say shes a brat or shes not a brat. mallory i just love mollysblog it is great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  17. Mallory says:

Thanks so much Meg!!! That’s means a lot to me!!! <3

  18. Sarah says:

Weren’t concentration camps around in Mollys time?

  19. Lena says:

Yes, but they were in German occupied Poland. Long way from Molly, and she wouldn’t have heard about them until after the war.

  20. Jenny says:

Yes they were, Sarah. There were Japanese Camps in America., and other camps in Europe.

  21. Lena says:

^^^They were NOT concentration camps. The place where the Japanese were kept were internment camps, and comparativley, the conditions there were much better.

  22. Ava says:

I at least wish Molly’s books mention something about Japan. They only talked about Europe, last I remember.

  23. Lena says:

Ava, Welcome to Molly’s World talks more about Japan, but last I remember, her core books mentioned it in passing.

  24. Jenny says:

They do talk a bit about Japanese americans (I don;’t know WHY here) in Emily’s book. I wish AG made Japanese Americans its own topic in a new Mollly book. Maybe when WW2 ends (Because it HAS to)

  25. Danielle says:

I hope we find out before Christmas what the next historical doll will be.

  26. Danielle says:

I wonder if they’ll make a Dakota doll for the Lanie collection. I mean, they made friend dolls for Chrissa, so why not for Lanie?

But then again, Chrissa was made into a movie, so maybe that changes things…

  27. Ana says:

I’m changing my Doll Diaries name back to Ana. I don’t think AG will make Dakota. It’s already September, Lanie will almost archive, no offense Danielle.

  28. Danielle says:

I know, I wasn’t expecting them to. :) But if they did, I was wondering if you guys would want her… I mean, I think they describe her in the books with curly red or auburn hair. And maybe her story of helping wildlife would be interesting.

  29. Jenny says:

I don’t think so, Danielle. Like Ana said, it will be too late. Lanie’s leaving on January. 1st. So why would they make a Dakota doll 3 months beofre lanie’s archive?

  30. Danielle says:

I know, I was just thinking! :) So what do you guys think the next AG historical will be? I’m just rlly anxious to find out! :)

  31. Sarah says:

    Thanks!

Well Danielle i dont know about the new historical thing because they still havn’t replaced one for Kirsten. So who knows?

  32. Ana says:

There’s still Denise and Sarah. I think Sarah is Sarah Moore, Addy’s friend.

  33. Jenny says:

Maybe Denise and Sarah are best friends?

  34. Mallory says:

    Could be anything really!!!

  35. Jenny says:

    Ooooh, how fun! *can’t wait*

  36. Jessie says:

I think someone mentioned names that were trademarked by American Girl(I think it was Lena) few months ago. So Denise and Sarah isn’t new historical’s real name, but that’s just my opinion.
And I’m *trying* to make smileys..
    :D :P

  37. Mallory says:

ya..could be like code names or something..

  38. Ana says:

    I only know : :) :( :P :D and? :O I don’t know if : O is a smiley.

  39. Ana says:

    It’s not.

  40. Ava says:

    what’s not

  41. Danielle says:

The next doll on my early Christmas list is Julie. She’s so gorgeous! :)

  42. Mallory says:

She sure is!!! I have her, and totally adore her!!!!!!!!!!!! :D :D :D

  43. Ana says:

I’m so glad I got Felicity.

  44. Jenny says:

Me and Maria talked about Lissie today. Maria said she was goign to ask Lissie for Christmas, and told me I should ask for Lizzie. I said I didn’t like Lizzie’s doll. We THEN had our famous “Josefina isn’t important to AG” fight. As usual, Maria defended Josefina while I said I’d like Josefina to go to the archives. Maria THEN said that if Josefina isn’t important, then that also makes MY Maddi (An AG I made up from 1894″ isn’t importnat either because HER tiem isn’t “relevant’

    We fight allot :p

  45. Danielle says:

I’d like AG to make an eskimo doll or a hawaiian doll. It would be so unique! :)

  46. Jenny says:

:O OMG! Me too, Danielle!! An Eskimo is a MUST HAVE for an AG girl :D Maria claimed that an Eskimo wouldn’t be “American” (because Josefina isn’t American)

  47. Ava says:

I don’t ever want Josefina to go into the archives. I still need more of her stuff!

  48. Sarah says:

    I think Josefina is pretty!!

  49. Madeline says:

OMGOODNESS! I’ve always wanted an Eskimo! But I’m afraid she’d be a bit like Kaya…

  50. Lauren says:

On the AG Fans message board, someone posted summaries to the GOTY 2011′s books. It seems like she’s Hawaiian.
