Presenting Lanie – The American Girl of the Year 2010
The wait is over. We now know what Lanie, the American Girl GOTY 2010 will look like.
According to the Wisconsin State Journal, the message for this year’s doll is “Go Outdoors”.
Lanie, a 10-year-old from Cambridge, Mass., will be the 2010 Girl of the Year doll for American Girl, Middleton, starting Jan. 1. She is described as a city girl who learns how to have fun outdoors. Through Lanie, American Girl is working with the National Wildlife Federation to encourage today’s girls to improve their health by tearing themselves away from their computer screens and discovering nature.
Now all we have to wait to find out is what her collection will consist of – considering it has been posted that the value of her collection is $559.

I LOVE her. She is awesome. Is the bunny a part of her accesories? Her bangs look like brand-new of their kind, although they look a LITTLE like a child cut them off. But besides that, I love that dress and I really want her, I am probably going to save up. And I just noticed her adorable bracelet and her headband and OOH just everything!
I think a laptop would be cute, although I wouldn’t think it would actually be in the starter accesorries set. But although it would make sense for her to have one. And I guessed right about a Classic face mold. I love her!!!

Lena, in response to Lanie’s bangs, I think they look a little choppy and short. Longer and thinner bangs might look better. You’re probably right about the bike. That would be reasonable for an outdoorsy doll.

actually nickie’s hair is so extremely easy to style! just wet (mist) her hair, brush small sections, and twist them with ur finger. it might look weird at first but her curls are very easy to style on my nicki doll. thats why i love her so much
its not that bad but it is not as easy as gwens or some of my other dolls that is why i dont take her places. i guess i like my dolls hair to be perfect at all times and with curly hair it cant be perfect. ph and that is how i fix nicki’s curls. once it took me an hour to do her whole head.(i did her hair in the car to ballet class and my class is an hour away from my house)

anyways i like my dolls hair to be perfect, too. i try to be very gentle with it. I hop her wig wont be shedding like some of my other dolls. I’m afraid they’ll go bald!

My name is actuallly Lanie! I think that when it says her collection is worth 559 dollars it just means all of her collection, not her starter.
Note books do fill up messanger bags. I have a binder that I call “notebook” (as does AG – see Molly’s school bag) and my sketch book is that size too. They entirely fill my messanger bag.
I do hope she has a decent pair of pants. The only really versatile pair AG’s made in a while came with the sparkly tunic.
Starburst’s leash was removable is you didn’t mind squishing llama face, so I assume the bunny’s will be too.
To me the pics look like of two people. If I pose with a friend and take a pictur myself, they come out looking like that.

my jess dolls wig is pretty bad, i mean it looks okay down just a little frizzy and the textures not soft anymore. i can still put her hair in braids though and she looks bran new. i have her hair in a pony tail right now but the ends are a couple different lengths. I think her hair is breaking. at the front of her part you could see tan skin so i colored it in with a marker identical to her hair so now you cant even notice. oh well shes still my favorite doll!

I’m pretty sure that the photos aren’t of humans because of the shape of the pink-ish part doesn’t look like a face, it looks like a snout to me. I’m guessing some variety of ape or monkey.

I don’t think she’s going to have a laptop, but like Lena said a large notebook or sketchbook could be inside the bag. Maybe a sketchbook for drawing nature? A camera would be cool too, since she has the photo contest and the photos in her hand.

We’ve heard nothing about a friend. I doubt she’d have one, anyway. Chrissa’s story was about friend ship, and even if the trio did sell well, they’d not have enough time to plan Lanie a friend, seeing as how she’s been planed since at least January, if not earlier.

Shes cute. but not what i thought. The people that said stuff like, “Shes way cuter than Chrissa” or “I hope her collection is bigger than Chrissa’s” i do not agree. Chrissa’s collection was pretty big. And Chrissa is very pretty. Even though Lanie will be new and all that i still like Chrissa way more. I’m not saying Lanie is ugly or any thing i just Think Chrissa is still very pretty. But her book cover looks just a little bit better than the doll. Her dress is pretty though

Lanie is a fairly nice doll, I like the blonde curls, but the bangs really shouldn’t be there. Love the bunny and the nature theme. I really doubt she’ll have a laptop, probably more like a sketch book or notebook or something.

I think she was both Alex…Lindsey had poor sales, so they didnt bother 4 another for ‘02. Then maybe they changed their minds and made Kailey for ‘03 and ‘04, and lucky for them in 2005 Marisol sold out early. Now HERE’S a question to think about…since there was no GOTY for 2002, could that be the reason they created Kaya? She was made in 2002.

Yes, Alex, I read that was for Cultural reasons. AG worked with Indian/Historical people to get the right clothes and stuff, and for Indians “At least Nez Perce) think it is shameful to show their teeth.

So instead of Kirsten, Sam, and Molly being the “forgotten three” Kirsten can just be the “Forgotten ONE”. Along with Kaya, Josefina and Addy.

They told me my thighs would hurt, but I take taekwondo and ballet, so that kinda lessened the pain because my muscles are used to strain. I rode for 3 hours, and my other cousin said she’s jealous because I ride better than her (her first lesson too)

1. get the boxes next to each other
2. decide the pros and cons of each doll
3. think about how useful they would be (I make videos.. so I take that into consideration)
4. Think about which would look better in your outfits
5. Think about which doll would get you more motivated to make money for it.
Personally I would get Lanie. That is b/c Rebecca Rubin (there is a real criminal out there who looks like her and has the same name)

@ grace: i am a member 4 b&n so the bracelet and one book was 14.51 total. but the books are 6.95 each, and the bracelet was 7.95, and the total is…. 21.85 altogether, and then – 10%= idk. but the braclet is soooooo cute ive had it on all day.

Hmm…. I’ve been thinking about this contest- I want to win, but I am going to the AG store in January on the 16th and I want to get her stuff. So here’s my plan- I enter the contest, I buy what I can afford, not buying the doll. Does anyoine here agree that AG hair salon prices are way too high? I mean, yeah, if it were like 10 bucks for a complicated french braid I couldn’t replicate, then sure, I’d do it. Money is all they ever cared about, really.
An X means that the doll was purchased from AG’s benefit sale. Those are returned/leftover dolls and were marked with an X on their bottoms. Some people don’t like that.

Well, I don’t plan on getting another doll anytime soon but Lanie is REALLY cute! I hav 2 say that Lanie is one of the cutest dolls in AG along with Mia, Ruthie, Felicity, and Julie – my mom says that i should hav gotten Julie, but Julie wasn’t in existance until Nov. 07, and I got Melissa in Jul. 07. Curly doll hair is hard 2 care for – the curls keep uncurling! But water and doll curlers sort of help.
ADVICE 4 CURLY DOLL HAIR: Buy the hair pick and get curlers 4 ur doll’s hair – it really helps!

it will stay curly if you don’t play with it too much. you can always fix a curl by brushing it gently and twisting it round your finger
i think her hair will stay curly as long as it is taken care of. so for all the little girls under the recommended age their dolls hair will be a mess but nothing new

Okay- I re looked at the hammock through clicign Lena’s name- I decided-
1. Her hair is cute and the side bangs do’t look alll goth and angled like in the meet photo.

I didn’t care cuz she wasnt all trashed and I wanted an AG sooooooo bad
I cut her hair twice, it was past her bum and now its midback but its stylable in ponytail and braids etc. So I’m happy! And Elizabeth is almost brand new
My mom says Kirsten is not, like in bad condition, but used condition- cuz she is loves, she was my 1st dolly.

I’ve seen her catalog. She has a $300 camper with lots of accessories including a racoon in a garbage can and a recycling bin. She has a laptop with messenger bag. THe outfits from both book covers as well as the red and orange one. A blue nightie with a yellow dragonfly or butterfly on it, she has an orange
oragnatan (sp?) stuffed animal. She also has a white owl and butterflies that come with the squirrel and fox. And other stuff.

I kinda didn’t want Lanie to have a camper. there is no way my mom will get me a $300 camper. unless its for me and my sister.
My catalog came in the mail. It is a camper, like the trailer kind you pull behind your vehicle. It has a bed that folds down over the table. There is also a blue sleeping bag and food, like bread, milk, oj, a tea pot and more that all comes with the camper.
There is also a refridgerator, sink, and a shower in the camper.

There a four t shirts for you and your doll and I think I’ve seen at least one of them in her book illustrations.
The trash can is for a camper accessory, we go camping all the time and this would be completely a realistic thing to happen if you were dumb enough to leave your trash out. I think it’s cute, but more for the raccoon.

There is also of course her rabbit and a really neat bracelet that looks like it has the earth in the shape of a heart as a bead with black cord, not sure though, it is pretty small in the picture.

The trash can may seem silly, but it really is poignant because Lanie’s story is about loving nature, etc. Dumping your trash outdoors wouldn’t be very nature friendly. People might’ve gone after AG for that.

I really like the idea of a camper. I went to Colorado many times when I was little (10+ years ago) and we used ours a ton. I slept in the bed that doubled as a table. The one I used wasn’t nice enough to have a shower, though. Not cool!

Lani, it’s been a long time, but I think it was in southern Colorado. We saw the Durango & Silverton railroads/trains and I remember staying in someplace called Bear Country once. We visited Mesa Verde National Park, too (if that’s in Colorado). I don’t remember much. The last time we went was around 2000 or 2001.

I am back from working w/ my dad, two days from 6:00 am to 7:00 pm, just for Lanie, selling dvds that my dads company makes to cranky people who yell at me because their dvd isn’t ready yet, that makes no sence, let me explain, his company films band shows and concerts, then sells the dvds(Don’t worry, he has a license and everything) to people, but I have to work selling them, and they are mad at ME because their dvd isn’t ready, but the band that they want the dvd of hasn’t even performed yet, so how are we supposed to give them that dvd if we haven’t even filmed it yet , because we can’t because the band hasn’t performed yet? Do you get what I’m saying, sorry if it’s confusing, well, now I can get Lanie, or if I decide not to get her, I can get Something else. Well, I’m tired,

Alright= I have found out that the camper and accessorries are all one big set. No buying just this or just that, you get the whole thing for 295 dollars. Which is a whole heck of a lot of money. With that money you could buy 3 dolls and an outfit. Unless this camper thing is WICKED cute and bigger than it seems, there is no way I am buying that. 300 dollars? Really?

Yeah, but she’s supposed to be outdoors were there’s mud and dirt and worms. Wearing a skirt and some flimsy sandals just won’t cut it! I think she needs jeans and tennies. Her books are about gardening, “The neighbors are going to tear down the vegetable garden!” and there is nothing to do with gardening in her collection.
