PlayWonder Mix and Match Outfit

Some time last week I was at Target and noticed they still had one PlayWonder doll outfit on clearance – it was marked down to $11 and included 7 pieces. At that price, even if there was only one item in the grouping that worked, it was still a good deal. The PlayWonder 18″ doll line was made for Target by the Madame Alexander doll company and sold there last year. It does not appear to be returning so if you can find any PlayWonder dolls or outfits, chances are they will be clearanced at this point.

The set included a bronze colored jacket, reversible skirt, lacy footless tights, a sleeveless tunic tee, a sleeveless fringe tee, a headband that can be used as a scarf and an elastic headband/belt thing (I forgot to put it in the photo but its nothing special). Now to me, this really doesn’t look like an outfit. It looks like a collection of pieces that could be mixed and matched to make something or paired with items we already have to make a cute outfit or five.

Here is a closer look at the fabric they used for the skirt and two tops. The print on the skirt is tiny and actually very pretty. The pink tunic tee is okay and I really don’t care for the fringe tee.

I figured that since the PlayWonder line is made by Madame Alexander that it would fit our Madame Alexander Favorite Friends girl McKayla best. I was right. So, she put on the tights (which I only like with these boots by MyPinkPlanet), the skirt with the floral pattern showing, a white tank from Journey Girls, the bronze jacket (which I LOVE) and the scarf. To me, this is a super cute outfit for fall and it really matches McKayla’s personality.

I reversed the skirt and put it on Ivy along with the pink tunic top tucked in. Ivy said the skirt was too tight and way too short! So short that she did not want her face in the photo! Just embarassing she said. On the right doll and with the right top, the skirt is just as cute with the chambray blue layer on the outside as it is with the floral layer showing.

Happy to be able to breathe again, Ivy likes the pink top with a pair of comfy skinny capris from AG. The back of the top ties and it really is very flimsy. Not my favorite piece in the set, but not the worst either. (Wondering what beautiful seat Ivy is sitting on? That is the new Victorian Trundle from The Queen’s Treasures. Watch for a giveaway for it later this fall.)

Just to humor me, Ivy put the fringe tee on over the pink tee. This top velcros at one should and is super flimsy. Now it might look cute with a pair of black denim shorts for summer, but as part of this set, I just don’t get it.

McKayla thinks this new trundle bed is great. It is so comfy that she is drifting off to sleep with a cupcake in her hand! Oh my McKayla!

Final thoughts – for $11.88 I am glad I picked up this set. Like I said, the jacket, skirt and scarf are excellent pieces. They are very well made, stylish and can go with lots of other separates that we already own. The AG girls wont get to wear the skirt, but our Madame Alexander, Springfield Dolls, Journey Girls, Carpatina, and Kidz n’ Cats dolls just got a great new piece to add to their wardrobe!

It’s good that you found that Char. Our Target has NOTHING. I mean to say that every new OG or other 18 inch doll item you’ve talked about hasn’t been there. What a bummer.

  2. Ivy says:

That is so cute! I”ll have to keep an eye out next time i go to target.

  3. Ava says:

Thirdie! That is a cute outfit, but I do not like the fringed top.

  4. Jessie says:

Love it! I’m really thinking about buying one of their outfits, but reviews always say that the quality isn’t that great. What do you think?

  5. Char says:

Jessie – in the case of this outfit the jacket and skirt are top notch. The shirts not so much. But for $11.88 it was a good buy.

  6. Amanda says:

I personally LOVE the fringe top! I think it looks really cute on Ivy :- )

  7. Gail says:

adorable utfit, looks very mature good for teen or adult collectors

  8. Kaylee says:

Cool. I like PlayWonder because their clothes look like something tweens would wear but their material is sometimes low-quality.

  13. Maddie says:

The tights are my fav part

  14. joe says:

them tights and them boots create such a cool rock chick look, and would look great in a pose where she is smashing up an electric guitar.

  15. Melody says:

Hmmmm these are pretty cute. Might need to spend some allowance money. But the tights remind me of a halloween costume. But I guess i would need that this time of year.

  16. Elizabeth says:

Char! Have you seen the new AG books?!!?!??!?!!?!?!?!?!!?!?!?!? Doll Star came out! There’s also a “First-Class Flight Set” (Doll Travel+some amazingness,) a “Deluxe Diner Set” (Doll Dining+some amazingness,) and a “Spotlight Stage Set” (Doll Star+some amazingness.) I saw Doll Star and my local Barnes and Nobel, and went onto the AG site to look at it again. To my surprise I found much more!!!

  17. Elizabeth says:

Also I’m not sure how long they’ve been out, but some of them have reviews dating to the end of September!

  18. Caitlin says:

I love the fishnet leggings and the outfit that Ivy had on with the tucked in shirt!

  19. I have that outfit! You just have to be super careful because the leggings stain. The heart on the shirt is also really delicate and mine came off completely.

  20. Claire M. says:

    Cute!!!

  21. Claire M. says:

I have a play wonder outfit and the jeans are not big enough to Velcro on AG dolls.

  22. Char says:

I have seen the books and saw the sets on the website today. I do think $60 for the play set is a little overpriced. Maybe Costco will carry them for less.

  23. Char says:

Melody – the tights would be awesome as part of a Halloween costume!

  24. Lena says:

Last year Costco had very similar sets for $40, so like Char I’m waiting for them to get the rest of their Christmas stock.

My Target sold out of the Playwonder stuff a while ago.

  25. Paige says:

Elizabeth-thanks for sharing that!! I will have to look at those in the AG website and might be buying!!:)

  26. Delaney says:

    That’s so cute!
I just got back from Six Flags…. Oh I’m a roller coaster freak!
