Picture of Chrissa American Girl of the Year 2009
ANOTHER UPDATE! The rumors are true – not only will there be Chrissa the Girl of the Year for 2009, American Girl is releasing two best friends dolls with her – Gwen (blonde) and Sonali (dark hair). The dolls are being released January 1, 2009.
UPDATE!!! Thanks to all my readers who quickly sent over the picture of Chrissa as published in USA Today! You all are FABULOUS!
American Girl is notorious for teasing us with countdowns to their girl of the year (GOTY) dolls and they are beginning to realize that most of their countdowns can be cracked. The lead up to Chrissa seems to be falling into the normal pattern. On the American Girl site their is a count down to Chrissa page and each day you can reveal another piece of her.
What we know so far: her dress is like the one the actress, Sammi Hanratty, is wearing in the movie promo; her hair is shoulder length, brown and relatively straight, and she has a similar face mold to the today doll #28.
The photo shown here is one that an AGFMB member was able to reveal and she has posted it in her Picasa album, too.
The Chrissa Stands Strong movie (American Girl: Girl of the Year 2009) will debut on HBO on January 5, 2009 and the DVD will be available for purchase on January 6, 2009. Her book, Chrissa Stands Strong (American Girl Today) ,is already available for pre-order.

A few seconds ago the American Girl website wasn’t loading properly and looked as if it was in the middle of an update. I looked carefully and under Fun For girls it said play chrissa’s new games! I took a snapshot of it and sent it to the Doll Diaries email address, hopefully they will post it for you all to see. I tried to click on the link, and it didn’t work, and now it isn’t there anymore : ( But hopefully American Girl will update soon, so we can all play Chrissa’s games.

They closed my school 2day because it was snowing. I remember in fifth grade (I moved away from my sister when we were almost finished with 4th grade 
) when I wanted to go outside for recess and the teachers said no bcuz of the snow! when I was still living with Zoe in the (way) upper midwest we had recess all the time, and extra recess sometimes when it was snowing! When I told mom about the no recess, she just laughed! I was mad, but she somehow found humor in it. She always does 
I love all the GOTY dolls. They each have their own personalities and specialties. Lindsey was imaginative and fun. Kailey is bravehearted and down to earth. Marisol is talented and courteous. Jess is adventerous (if thats spelt right
) and daring. Nicki was helpful and kind. Mia was straightforward and passionate. And Chrissa will be strong and supportive!

I got about 5-6 inches where I live(Washington State)and there is still more coming!Last year it snowed onC hristmas like 3 inches and this year the snow may stick because from Sunday-Friday(next week) it may snow!(BTW sorry that this is off subject.I thought since you were talking about snow that i could too!)
I live in Washington state too and we got about 2-3 inches over night. More is still coming likt AGFan4ever said though. School’s closed!! Yippee!! OMG, Chrissa is just gorgeous!!! She looks alot like me, I just have to get her and her outfits and everything!!! I hope she has a cute dog or something. I was upset that Mia didn’t have a pet! I love the snow, but hope we can get to the barn to go riding today. My friend and I both lease horses there and we were going to ride today and tomorrow, but I don’t know if we’ll be able to!!!

is because when American Girl found out that the picture could be revealed, they made those three squares part of the image temporarily.

Brenna, I have 10 dolls, Kit, Nicki, a JLY named Karen, a Bitty Baby named Amy, Mia, Ruthie, Emily, Nellie, Samantha, and Kirsten. So, I don’t think five dolls is too many!
IMHO, I don’t really like the grey eyes, and would much rather have her with ice blue eyes (like mine
), but so far, she’s the closest doll to me (as in looks) and i like her a lot
Yeah, Zo, she looks SO much likya! (new term; like + you = likya!
) So, we didn’t have school yesterday, so I took a little break by sleeping in, stay on the computer for hours, watch tv for hours, and then get a (very) expensive paintbrush for its kind. (Seriously, the bristles combines are smaller than the width of an AG finger, yet it cost almost 4 bucks!) Finally, I got my recently French-tipped nails filled (so did my mom; jealous still, Zoe? 
) Then, I went to bed late. And I went back to my routine. We’re supposed to get a nasty ice storm right in the middle of school, so I’m packing a toothbrush and some xtra jammies! 
BTW, I will be taking pictures of my dolls soon, and will be sending them to Char- with Mom’s permission- and hopefully get them on the site. However, I totally forgot my password on the Doll Diaries Forum and email won’t help cuz it just tells me how to reset it, which includes putting in my old one. So, I’ll only be on the main site from now on. Sorry for the inconvienence this may cause you. Midwest Airlines, the best care in the air. lol BTW (again!) I’ll be leaving for Iowa (hehe, where Chrissa’s from!

I hope she will have blue eyes. I love the brown hair and blue eyes combination, especially with freckles, but it doesn’t look like she has any. I wonder if they will really make her two friends, that seems kind of extreme for a GOTY doll, but, she already has a movie, so who knows what’s possible? kelsey ik ur new so i wanna tell you something most of our past boards (ive been on for a really long time) have nothing to do with the topic we just talk.
The one we’ve been calling “Lanie” is actually named Gwen.
I was looking at the book covers EXTREMELY closely, and I noticed something. Chrissa’s eyes look like a purple-ish blue and Lanie’s eyes look like a brown-green color. Sonali’s eyes look like an amber color. Wouldn’t it be great if Chrissa had light purple-blue eyes like on the book covers? And Lanie had brown-green eyes? IF Lanie has brown-green eyes, she’d look the most like me than any other doll, and Chrissa looks strikingly like my best friend from school. I mean exactly like her based on her hair color, possible eye color (if it is blue like everyone’s saying), and taste in clothes. The only bummer is she (my bf from school) is not allowed to have AG dolls. Her mom won’t let her. Her mom thinks “it’s a waste of her money, and they are just for marketing purposes” and “they don’t do anything but sit there and look freaky, darling”. I guess her mom never had a taste in dolls and didn’t grow up with any.
In exactly one week or 7 days it will be Christmas!I hope they make Chrissa’s BFF! My b-day is in May and I really want to go to AGPLA like i did for this year!
“Lanie” is named Gwen. There is no Lanie.
To answer your question Selena, for first period at my school (I’m a sophomore in high school) I have health, and we were supposed to take a test over chapters seven and eight, but…..NO SCHOOL TODAY AGAIN!!!! YIPPEEE!!! We have tons of snow here now, four to five inches at least. I think purple blue eyes would be really pretty, but have you ever seen anyone with those color eyes?? I think they should make her realistic looking. I like the name Lanie better than Gwen, but Gwen is pretty too I guess. It reminds me of Gwenyth, like Gwenyth Paltrow. It sounds medielvish!!
I’m not sure who my favorite historical doll is. I’d have to say either Samantha, Felicity, Kirsten or Addy. If I HAD to pick one, then Felicity, because I am most like her. I don’t look like her (When I was younger I was Samantha’s twin, not even kidding!) but my personality is like her!! And I love horses!!!

Um… she probably is named Lanie and not Gwen. Lanie is the name I’ve been hearing, and My mom will buy her. And Chrissa & Sonali. Because my mom is famous and she buys me everything. ohh i forgot the school play started this year and we have a new performing arts teacher before everyone got in the play but 5th graders werent allowd since two years ago ive been in th eplay every year and usually the 8th graders got bigger parts so ive been waiting for 8th grade but now its really competitive not everyone gets a part and eighth graders dont get bigger parts im trying not to brag but ive always had a bigger part than the other kids in my grade they were dancers etc and i was a main character well the plays alice in wonderland and i really wanna be alice, auditions are not till january so im practicing the audition script all christmas break we r auditioning in groups im so excited

Hi! yeah, I read ashleighs dilema with her dolls, hehe! And trust me, I have the same problem sometimes! I love my dolls soooo much, i have other kinds besides AG dolls. To tell you the truth, when i was younger I was actually AFRAID of my dolls, but now I can’t get over how cute they are! Everybody that see’s my dolls (mosly adults) think that its really great that I still play with my dolls! Actually, I sorta used to (few years ago) try to keep other kids attention away from my dolls, and since I have a candy shop for my dolls in the living room, everyone that comes in our house sees it! But now it would be super hard to hide my dolls, even if i wanted to cause I have 4 shelves in my room that are one doll family’s mansion, my closet is another house, up by my television is another doll room, and since my brother is away, I am using part of his room, haha! Even though I am 13 as well, I think that I will play with my dolls until I’m an adult, and then pass them down to my daughters!

I reeeeeeally want to go to the snow!!!!! I’ve only been there twice, once when I was a baby and once when i went to snow camp! All of you who have snow in the winter are soooooo lucky!!! On Sunday it was in the 70’s and it was hot enough that we went swimming! I have been begging my mom to take me there! It’s snowing in my doll’s town, maybe thats as close as real snow as I’ll ever get

Ohmigod…I have eight AG dolls {soon to be nine; I am getting one for Christmas, and I opening it tomorrow for Christmas Eve, and I am about 95% sure it is Mia St. Clair, but anyways}. Out of eight three {which is almost half} are Girl of the Year…I have Marisol-2005, Jess-2006, and Nicki-2007. I will prob. get Mia, and this Chrissa is ADORBALE.. I love the hair and face…cute straight cropped brown hair! I am totally asking for her for my birthday in Febraury; for me, and AG DOLL COLLECTOR, this is a MUST-HAVE..THIS WILL BE MY COUNTDOWN NOW! Thanks dolldiaries.com! This is awesome of you for having this doll; she is absoutely beautiful! I cannot wait to see her and her stuff in the AG Mag in 2009 {in my Jan. issue}…cannot wait to have my fifth Girl of The Year {if someone is willing to get it for my b-day}! I didn’t get any AG stuff, I got something BETTER! We are going to the snow on Tuesday. Most of you would probably think “Its just snow! Get over it!” But it just wouldn’t be Christmas without snow, since I live southern California it NEVER comes although it did rain throughout today! I had some extra time to go on the computer but this morning was so fun! I got up super early cause I heard a noise in the living room, but when I got there, nobody was there! I think Santa made a last delivery to me
. I still keep the little glimmer of hope with me that Santa is real! Maybe I could put milk out for him next year and then take a sample of his fingerprints and see if he’s the real thing! I also got a cannon elph digital camera, and a doll chair, a “nightstand for them” and a towel rack for my dolls! Christmas isn’t over yet though, I am still hoping we can do more Christmasy things tomorrow, since my little cousins are here!

Im not sure if this is true or not but I think I saw somewhere that one of Chrissa’s Best Friend Doll’s (the 1 with blonde hair) name is going to be Gwen. That might be a rumor im not sure. Anyways… Merry Christmas!
The rumor is true. There will be a Gwen and a Sonali doll. They will (including Chrissa) will all have head bands in their assesoories. Their outfits ( the ones that are for-sure) are swim team outfits, summer holiday outfit( Chrissa’s pokka dot dress), pajamas, and school outfits. There will be more outfits than the ones listed but those are the for-sure ones for Chrissa, Gwen, and Sonali. I am really excitd My sister is getting Chrissa, I am getting Gwen, and my other sister is getting Sonali. They are our first AG dolls, really excited when they come we can each get a doll, assesories, and 3 outfits! and the dvd to share!

Oh that would be cool for a GOTY to be the daughter of an airforce dad, and have to deal w/ moving away from Orlando (or somewhere!) to Hawaii for 3 yrs. b/c her dad is trasfering!! That’s kinda my story b/c we (then again, I wasn’t born yet!) moved away from Las Vegas to England b/c my dad was in the airforce b4 he became a South West pilot and he was transfered so ya!! In her second book she would meet new friends, and learn how to communicate to her old friends reguarly!!
I have been reading most of these comments and I agree with many of you girls. First of all, I just had my birthday (it ended a few minutes ago) and I am in my late 40’s. I played with dolls til I was 14 and in 8th grade but my best friend and I never let anyone else know. Kids are cruel to each other. After that I put my dolls in the attic and from time to time would go change them or celebrate Christmas with them. I was lucky enough to have a little girl who loved dolls, and I have a lot of American girl things. We have 32 dolls altogether but she is getting her room redone (she is almost 13) and all the AG furniture and accessories are now in my basement and the dolls in my room until I can figure something out. I would love to display them but don’t have the room. I really still enjoy dressing them and setting them up in scenes. My dream job would to one day be able to merchandise the dolls at the AG store! I do feel tho, like some of you, that AG is putting out too many dolls and diluting the specialness of their brand. Even though I can afford to get all three dolls if I really wanted to, it just seems like they are always doing something (changing the girl of the year from every other year to every year, introducing a best friend doll at the same time as the historical doll (and why was there never an Ivy mini when all the other best friends have one?), retiring Samantha and now 3 dolls at once). It becomes too overwhelming. I promised my daughter I would keep collecting the GOTY dolls for her children someday but AG is just getting too greedy.

I remember at first when I got Felicity (I was 6 or 7, w/ the OLD version of Lissie) I was SO excited!! And then, 2 yrs later, I got Nellie, same experience! They were SO special and every time I got one it was just AMAZING But then they just had the unpopular GOTY (Lindsey and Kailey) , the few historicals, and the JLUs.. Now this year (well, next year actually) they’re making a historical , they’re making, 1..2.. 3… GOTYs, they’re prob making NEW JLUs, and an ENTIRE collection for all 3 GOTYs!!! I always have loved to collect the GOTYs (starting from Marisol, who loved to dance like me) but this yr. I mean really, 3?? I’d want to buy them all!! And if I didn’t have them all, I never would be able to have my 2009 GOTY doll(s) !! Same thing w/ Sam and Nellie, I don’t even have any outfits for Sam except the one she came in!! And it makes me really sad b/c I’ll never be able to get it…
Unless AG tricked us into panicking for her to come back in 2010!! Hey that would be cool if for a short time in 2010 they re-realesed the reitered stuff!

I think Sonali looks very unique, so I prob like her the best! She really looks Indian an i haven’t seen a doll like that yet! Um, what was the other name that people thought gwen’s name would be? Whatever it was, I liked it better! I love gwen’s dress though, its very beautiful! I agree somewhat that AG’s dolls aren’t as special as they used to be! The historical dolls each have wonderful lessons, I’ve read all of there books so I’m familar with each of there backrounds. But the more dolls that come out, it just makes me sad because they don’t feel so special anymore:(. My favorite stories were the Samantha stories so my Grandma got me all of them. I read Samantha’s surprise every Christmas! I don’t see how AG could be so cruel as to take Samantha away from us. Bottom line, I think AG should put that curtain “sparkle”in there dolls to make them special like they used to be! All the historical dolls have won my heart

BTW, I have 4 AG dolls, and lots of other brand dolls (My twinns, My twinn Cuddlies, Springfield, etc) I have a look alike doll Samantha, Kailey, Emily, and Felicity. Each doll has there own unique personality which makes it super fun to play with. I found a site on here a few years ago called OURDOLLS, it’s inspired me soooooooo much, now I love dolls more than when I was 7,8,9!!! oh ya, a few months ago I got a My twinn doll off ebay, she is my pride and joy! She is the most beautiful thing, and I got her altogether for $58! And then the seller suprised me by sending me a dress, apron, and shoes with her! idk how she new I was a little girl that has always wanted a My Twinn doll! I do trust ebay, but I always look at the sellers feedback so that I KNOW i can trust them! N e way, the My Twinn dolls make perfect mothers if you want your dolls to be in a family, like by following the families in the AG books, for EX: I am starting to collect the Merriman family, My my twinn is Mrs. Merriman, then I have Felicity, Nan, I am going to get a MTC william, and I have a family member I added named abby (mtc) and now I need to get a mt Mr. Merriman.

Well I think that this doll should be a must get. Especially since we can no longer get Samantha. I would choose between either Chrissa, Felicity & Elizabeth, or Kirsten. The lessons from the movie preview is a valuable lesson. I think however, that they should also make an American Girl Today doll based on weight problems. That would so make my day. Not that I am overweight, but a lot of children even adults are having problems dealing with weight problems. Most can’t even do anything about it because it’s due to asthma or other breathing problems. Anyways, I think that American girl should make more dolls like this that deal with everyday problems. I know they already have some out like that, and basically every doll has a problem that they learn what to do with, but I think they should pick a more popular subject like they did Chrissa because bullying goes on at every school.

So, just like everyone else, I’m here to talk about Chrissa.
I love the name, look of the doll, and the idea of the doll, but having basically three GOTY dolls is a little much. What about those of us who try to collect the whole collection. Its already hard to collect just one doll’s collection! And, if American girl were to have a Best Friend GOTY, they should make it the closest friend, which would be Gwen. Now, Gwen and Sonali may not even be the actual names. Do any of you remember hearing about “Lulu”? Lulu was the “fake” name for Chrissa, because American Girl couldn’t spill any info.
I really hope I’m not offending anyone. I’m just thinking about those who are even lucky to get just the year doll. Three dolls are too much….. unless they are out for more than one year.

Hey, Marie! Julie Albright is another AG. Her story is set back in the 1970s. Her parents recently divorced and she is trying to adjust living with only one parent at a time, and also a new school. Julie loves to play basketball, only the school doesn’t have a girl’s team, so she wants to play on the boys. She makes a petition with her bff Ivy (more about her later) to let girls play to, but when she gives the coach the petition, he shreds it up and says she still cant play. When Julie tells her sister about this, the realize that Julie is protected against title nine, (a law that says if there is no girls team, they have to let the girls play with the boys). They go to the principal and she is finally accepted.
Ivy Ling is Julie’s best friend (she’s a doll too!) that is Chinese American. She loves to do gymnastics and she is Julie’s dad’s neighbor.
Next, I’ll tell you all about Addy. Adele (I think), or Addy, Walker is a courageous girl growing up towards the end of the Civil War. She and her mother escape from North Carolina to Philidalphia, Pennsylvania to find her brother, Sam, and her father. Doing this means leaving behind Addy’s one-year-old sister, Esther, and risking their lives. When in Pennsylvania, Addy believes that she has found freedom.
