Thanks to Marcia, here is another photo of the new historical friend doll, Ruthie Smithens, from American Girl. Ruthie is Kit’s best friend and is being added to the collection in time for the Kit movie debut in July.
Here is a scoop photo from the American Girl site (later removed) with Ruthie circled.
I think the two look very much alike and tend to think that this is the real deal, although time will ultimately tell.

The Kit Kittredge: An American Girl - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack will be released on June 17, 2008. The soundtrack includes a collection of classic songs from the 1930s and a few that are new/original pieces for the movie.

This isn’t a very big picture, but if you look closely this doll looks like she could be Ruthie, the new American Girl doll who is Kit’s best friend. Ruthie has dark brown hair with curls and looks like she is wearing a purple dress.
Time will tell if this was American Girl’s way of giving us a sneak peek without giving away the surprise.

I was helping my daughter rearrange her room today and we decided to take some new pictures of a few of her dolls. Here is Kit Kittredge. We bought her at the American Girl Place in New York with the help of our awesome personal shopper, Robyn.
Kit sure would like her friend Ruthie to come over! We can’t wait to see her.

We got our new American Girl catalog today and while there are some cute new matching doll and girl outfits, there is no Ruthie.
It looks like most of the new stuff is summer outfit related. The garden set for Coconut is cute, Julie has some new outfits for her May 1st birthday, and it looks like Bitty Baby got a few new outfits, but there isn’t much news about Kit’s movie or Ruthie.
So who has any idea when we will get more info on Ruthie’s release? Her books are due out later this month, but what about the doll?

I have now heard from a few unofficial sources that the new American Girl Ruthie doll will be coming out in May. Ruthie, who is being released as Kit’s best friend, has been reported to be coming out May 1st. I am trying to get an official confirmation of this and will update once I hear back from an official source.
One thing I did notice is that the Really Truly Ruthie (American Girls Collection)
listing on Amazon no longer says it will be released in June - it has no date on the product page and just says it is available for pre-order now. Barnes and Noble and the American Girl publications site list the release date as May 19.
The pre-movie buzz for the Kit Kittredge movie this summer will be starting soon and I am sure the release of the Ruthie doll will certainly help kick it off.

I recently redid my youngest daughter’s room and decided that she no longer needed a gazillion little toys stored in her storage caddy. Instead, we organized her Bitty Baby (and Bitty Twins) collection into labeled bins so she could easily find the items she wants and she knows where they go back, too.
