When I heard the news that Samantha’s collection was going to be retired, I knew I needed to order Samantha and Nellie right away. Originally I had planned on giving them to my daughter for Christmas, but once she saw Chrissa and found out that Chrissa is on a swim team, she no longer seemed interested in Sam and Nellie.
I ordered them anyhow and couldn’t believe how pretty Nellie is up close! Samantha is just so classic (and looks like me when I was younger).
Christmas has come and gone, Chrissa has been ordered (even though her swim gear won’t be here anytime soon) and I just couldn’t take it anymore. I had to bring Samantha and Nellie out this evening. The dolls are mine (along with Felicity) but my daughter gets to take care of them and let them stay in her room with all the other dolls).
Miss N was so genuinely happy and appreciative to have Sam and Nellie join her dolls. She immediately started reading Nellie’s book and helped me find a space on her cabinet for them.

In like November, I tried to get Samantha on eBay. at first, the starting prices were pretty cheap, with some like $20, $15, and even 1 cent. but by the end of the bidding time, they all went for 100 + dollar, some even $150. I did not end up getting Sam. I would guess Nellie is about the same.
Most of the ppl selling were fair, but the ppl buying kept bidding higher and higher. Since they are retired, they probably go for a lot more than other dolls.

I gave up on the bids, cuz i was looking for something under $50, but i don’t know how much $$$ you have to spend.

well, when i was looking 4 samantha in november (and she wasn’t even retired then!) thats how much they cost. there were some that were less, but they just had a picture of sam from the ag website, and i don’t trust it because i don’t know if they really have it.
i think the dolls that r retired go for more than those who arent.

i don’t know…that’s a hard question. i like the ones i have, obviously, but i also like Samantha, Kit, Ruthie, Ivy, Julie, Jess, Marisol, Addy, and some JLYs. who is ur favorite doll?
Ashleigh; why your still ignoring me, IDK, but I have to disagree with you on Samantha being boring. Her time in history was by far an extremeley important one, and the doll has some great lessons. Samantha is one of the “Pleasants”…aka some of the first dolls made. I wish American Girl still made dolls of Samantha’s quality and value, however its been degrading…some of the dolls lessons aren’t that great… I am NOT saying that the “Generation of New” girls don’t have good lessons, and I like all the dolls, I just think there are more important periods in History…not to be cruel, but these days, people aren’t buying American Girls for the real reason Pleasant Rowland started the company; to let girls learn about history in a fun way. These days people are buying dolls because “They look pretty” or “They’re original” .
Just to finish off, Samantha’s books taught us that just because a person doesn’t have good taste in clothes or be “model perfect” doesn’t mean that person isn’t nice, or sweet or smart! Samantha befriended Nellie, and in the process taught me that I shouldn’t judge girls by their looks, but by what’s inside.

Selena; I know you asked Zoe, but a half birthday is half way to your birthday! for example, there are 12 months in a year. If your birthday is lets say June, your half birthday would be in January… its half way to your birthday.
If that doesn’t make sense, just tell me what month….wait isn’t your birthday in Dec. or Nov?? so ur half b-day would be:
December: half bday would be June!
November: May !
