Over the past few years the quality and creativity we have seen from Our Generation has improved greatly. They make wonderful 18″ dolls and accessories that are affordable and you can easily get at your local Target store. Okay, let me rephrase that a bit. Target carries Our Generation, however, every store gets different stock and not all at the same time and sometimes you will see an item available and then you may not see it again for a very long time if ever. Bottom line – if you see something from Our Generation at your local Target, get it then, don’t wait!
Anyhow, one of the items I have wanted to add to our collection for ages is the Our Generation bicycle – and for some reason, our Target never seems to have it in stock. Thankfully, our friends at Our Generation sent me a doll and the bicycle to review, because I still haven’t seen the bicycle in our local Target this season.
Meet Jenny – she is an 18″ Our Generation doll who comes in a deluxe set that includes a book and some baking accessories – I will review those in a separate post. Jenny has long blonde hair and green eyes. She has a soft body and her limbs are a soft vinyl. Her eyes open and close, too.
Jenny has a very sweet face although I wish her lips were a slightly darker shade of pink. Jenny’s hair comes in two ponytails that are then tied together in the back. I did not take her hair out, because shortly after I got Jenny I found out that a friend of mine had a family in her Girl Scout troop that was in need so I gave Jenny and two other dolls to that family for Christmas.
Jenny comes dressed in a simple outfit of a white top, corduroy skirt, socks and shoes, but I like them – they are great pieces for mixing and matching.
Jenny’s yellow shoes are thick plastic slip ons.
Now let’s take a look at the Our Generation bicycle. The OG bike is awesome! It usually sells for $49.99 but is on sale online at Target for $39.99. The bike is metal and the attention to detail is fabulous!
Right down to the bell!
The OG bike has training wheels which help it balance during play and display. The bike does not have a kickstand so I think the training wheels are essential. The pedals have straps to keep your doll’s feet in place and they do move, although the Our Generation, American Girl and other standard 18″ dolls do not have bending knees so they can’t really pedal well.
The basket, the streamers, license plate and spoke guards are all fun details that take this bike to the next level. And did I mention it is metal – this is one solid piece and one of the best made doll accessories I have seen yet.
It’s a bit hard to see, but they have added a white OGgirl logo in a few places which also gives it a special feel.
Jenny is ready to ride all over town on her new bike – well, after she gets her helmet – safety first!
While I think the overall quality and play value of the Our Generation dolls is getting better with each new run, I think their accessories are one of the best values going! They are affordable, creative, and have major play value. If you see the bicycle in stores or online, I highly recommend it! It gets an A+ from me!
