UPDATE!! My Twinn is back in business. I am leaving the below announcement for historical purposes.
According to recent reports and the fact that My Twinn has ended its affiliate program, the future of the My Twinn doll company is definitely uncertain. Its parent company – The Parent Company – is seeking bankruptcy protection for itself and many of its brands, including eToys, KB Toys and My Twinn.
Although My Twinn dolls are not my favorite, they are still very well made, great for play and collecting, and they are good competition for American Girl. Hopefully another company will want to buy the My Twinn business and the dolls will continue to be made.

Hmm, interesting! This is the second time this has happened to my twinn.
FIRSTIE!;)
I wonder if they’ll go broke? Then American Girl will rule the doll world!!!!!!! MUHAHAHAHAHHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!! Whoa………that was awkward! =)
My baby sister went to her dad’s house on Xmas day, and her grandma got her this life-size doll that looks just like my sis… I wonder if it was a My Twinn?
YAY!!!! I’m 3rd to comment! I 22nd next time! (Weird, yes.) I hope AG does rule the doll world!
IM NOT A FAN OF MY TWINN CONSIDERING ITS 150 DOLLARS FOR A DOLL WHEN COMOPARED TO AMERICAN GIRL ITS ONLY 100 DOLLARS. VERY INTERESTING…KB TOYS WENT OUT OF BUISNESS SO THEY’LL PROBALLY SELL ETOYS AND IF THEIR STILL STRUGGLING SELL MY TWINN. I ASK MY FRIENDS ABOUT MY TWINN ALL THE TIME AND THEY DONT EVEN KNOW ABOUT IT! THAT JUST SHOWS YOU THEIR NOT VERY POPULAR…
XOXO-KAYLEIGH!-XOXO
I remember when I wanted one this year. I got over it slowly, but luckily I got over it before my parents would have bought one for a Christmas present. I don’t know what I was thinking. No, AG, don’t take over the doll world! Just the 18 inch doll world!
That way we can still have a bit of Barbie and Karito Kids!
I don’t think My Twinn is really competition for AG now. Just look at how much better one is doing than the other…and most little girls know about American Girls but not My Twinn dolls.
I have both and love both. It would be a pity if MT went out of business again.
American Girl is WAY better than My Twinn! Their eyes don;t even clode when you lay them down!!! Ewwwwwww!
I happen to think My Twinn is a great thing! When I’m older and have kids, I want to ask my mom for a picture of me when I was five. I’ll send it in to My Twinn (unless it’s too late!
) and show my girls what I looked like when I was their age. It’s almost like a picture frame, you know?
And you’re right, Katherine, there really isn’t any competition between them. I wonder why everyone thinks there is…
We started with My Twinn first and had a lot of things for the doll and then my daughter and my husband had one made to look like me (using my kindergarten picture) . Right after that My Twinn went out of business and it took a while for the new company to get back to speed. In the meantime we moved to American Girl dolls. But I always have a place in my heart for My Twinn and my daughter’s doll was almost a family member for a while, going everywhere with us. More so than any of her AG dolls. I hope they stay in business and find their own niche.
I’m sorry, but the My Twinns really scare me. They’re eyes don’t even close!
I’m sorry if I offend anyone, but its just my preference.
AG is SOOOOOO much better then “My Twinn”!! My Twinn stincks!! they’re creepy!!
i have 12 american girl dolls and no mytwin dolls but i have seen the website and infoshows on them. i think they are pretty but they are to tall, the clothes arent as cute as american girls and the price is to much. if i new about them when i was younger i would of problebly begged my mom to get one even though i had to wait till i was 10 to start getting american girl dolls.( i had to show i was responsible)
I don’t mean to be rude, but I agree with Jovi. American Girl Dolls are cheaper, and there is more ways to buy them. There are no mini My Twinn dolls!
P.S. Sorry if I hurt anybody’s feelings. It’s just what I think and like!
I think that not having the eyes close is not such a bad thing. The eyes look a lot more pretty.
No offence to any one but the Mytwinn dolls gave me nightmares one time. The eyes are just too creppy!!!
me 2 krissy!
a LONG time ago (mebbe last christmas or the 1 before) they were introducing My Twinn My World- and online virtual world. I checked in every day ,waiting for it to open, and it kept saying things like coming soon, or arriving late december, arriving late january, and so on. and now they dont even have the link anymore! sigh, i was really looking forward to it opening.
i also had a my twinn but her hair got frizzy the day i got her ( a few christmases ago) because i 4got 2 brush it w/ water. we never sent her 4 a new wig, and i dont want to, mostly because my hair grows fast so id be sending her in, like every few months, to get a new hair style. thats 2much $ for a doll that i dont play with too much anymore
but she is very cute though!!!!
I have absolutely nothing against My Twinn. They are kinda creepy in a way. I mean, if a girl has a mole on her cheek, the company paints one on the doll too! It just, kinda funny in a way.
My parents ordered 2 dolls for my daughter and my niece. Our girls absolutely love their dolls. I ordered clothes 3 days before Christmas and received my order on Christmas Eve, a week before it was due to arrive and i paid standard shipping. The quality of the dolls is unbelievable, the arms, legs and feet bend and move unlike the American Girl dolls of which we own 2. I would recommend this doll to anyone, it is fabulous.
i have a my twinn. she looks just like me. the quality of them is worth the price. but i love ag 2…. i have 9 ags so i think ag kinda over rules in my heart.
I’m sorry that so many of you don’t like My Twinn dolls. Here’s why I love them: They are fully poseable, in just about any way you can imagine, and can stand on their own,
There are dozens of face molds that will offer a very realistic artistic resemblence to your favorite girl (instead of only – what – 3 from AG?). The original My Twinn Company from Denver offered 48 face molds.
You get to choose their eye color, hair color and style, and skin tone.
Yes, they do cost more than American Girl dolls, but they are worth it – to me and thousands of collectors and little girls out there, because they have real personality and beauty.
I collect My Twinn dolls, and both my daughters have had one or more for several years. They like them much more than the AG dolls.
As for clothes – if you ever go to eBay, you’ll think twice about the lack of clothing out there for My Twinn dolls. There are several seamstresses who make outstanding quality clothing for the dolls. And most of them don’t use velcro – the bugaboo that snarls hair and snags cloth bodies.
Don’t get me wrong, I like the notion behind AG – girls with their own histories, etc., but I personally can’t see any difference in the face molds – they all look alike, except the AA and the Asian faces. And I prefer dolls that bend at the knees and elbows. Just my humble opinion. It will be a true pity if My Twinn is forced to close its doors again. Their main problem is not the doll – it’s the company.
The My Twinn Company was bought at an auction last week and the plans are that it will be reopening in the next two weeks. Not sure who the buyer was. The eToys branch was bought by Toys R US. I love my My Twinn dolls and have also been a collector for quite a few years. I love having the different face molds with different skintones as well as eye colors. I do wish the new owner will go back to the quality of eyes used during the companies Denver days. Nothing against AG’s as I like them too especially the quality of their outfits. I just went to the new Chicago location last month and wish My Twinn would have some retail locations too.
I agree with AnneMarie, I bought one for my elf on December 18,2008 and got her in a week before Christmas, then I bought another one on Jan 11, 2009 got her in two weeks and many clothes. I had no problem with anyone or anything. I was so surprised on how much the the doll looked like me when I was about 10 years old, the other one looks so much like my sister. My Twinn dolls are very unique. I perfer them then American Girls. American Girls all look like. With My Twinn you can make her a family herloom or family treasure, telling your decendence the doll was made to look like your ancestor. Making her part of your family history.
Many adults collect the My Twinn dolls and their quality is so far superior to AG dolls…it’s shocking that anyone would prefer AG’s. AG’s are all the exact same face….their eyes are cheap and they are not poseable. AG dolls are strictly a toy and they look it. I have over 80+ MT dolls and they are amazing. I have each one custome painted and some of you who think $150 is a lot for them, just don’t know much about the world of dolls. Take a look at Himstedts, Reborn dolls,
BJD’s. You get what you pay for. If junk is what you want……that is what you will get for $100. For a toy…that is about all one should spend if you intend to turn the doll over to a child who will curl their hair with a curling iron, paint their nails, put them in water, use scissors on them . I wish you could see some of the truly amazing MT dolls that I have. You would never go back to AG’s.
My daughter has a Denver My Twinn purchased 8 years ago. She has 5 American Girl dolls, Samantha, Nellie, Today, and two Bitty Twins. She hates the AG dolls and wants to sell them. (I keep trying to talk her out of getting rid of them!) Her beloved My Twinn “Mary” is her most treasured possession. Truly a sister to her. There is something quite special about the My Twinn dolls!
It really is misleading to compare My Twinn with American Girl, since they are really totally different dolls. For starters, My Twinn is a 23 inch super poseable doll, more like an action figure in some ways. American Girl is considerably smaller at 18 inches and does not have the flexibility in the joints. There is no comparsion. I am a happy collector of both, but they are very different.
My Twinn is more comparable to other dolls that I collect such as Lee Middleton and they are usually priced even higher than My Twinn. Also, if one wants to collect a variety of dolls and is not interested in an exact replica, a My Twinn friend can be chosen for a little as $50 on sale. I purchased two at the $50 price and picked up my other three My Twinn dolls through ebay auctions all for less than $100.
I have five boy My Twinn dolls and I dress them in newborn size clothes that I mostly picked up at my local department stores on clearance. The difference is My Twinn dolls have smaller necks compared to a newborn baby, so look for smaller necks or buttons in the neck area. I am amazed, but happy that they are so many older kid looking clothes available in newborn size such as t-shirts, jackets, pants, jeans, etc. My Twinn also wear newborn size or size 1 shoes that can be bought at a regular store.
As for the eyes, the perfectly realistic eyelashes would be ruined if the eyes were allowed to open and shut, plus the realistic eye molding around the eyes would not be allowable with an open and shut eye mechanism. Many high priced collector dolls do not have eyes that shut either and I even prefer the quality of the My Twinn eyes.
There have been three versions of the My Twinn company in history the way I understand. The original company was the best quality, but while the doll was great, the business side went under. Some other company briefly took it over, but the quality was lacking, and this is the period of time that has the most complaints. The third company that took it over is the one now.
The dolls are great and I think it has just been bad luck on the business end. That and not enough people seem to appreciate them. It appears that the quality of the dolls, which is more on par with collector dolls that cost a lot more money, is wasted on most parents unfortunately.
Unfortunately, this is what happened to me. When I was a kid, my mom bought a My Twinn doll. Of course making her look like me. However, I got her and well…SHE FREAKED ME OUT! I think what really creeped me out was the eyes. I was totally into American Girls Dolls and loved it how their eyes would open and close. My Twinn didn’t and for some reason looked very odd to me when putting her to ’sleep’. (However, this was me 10 yrs ago…but regardless, it still freak me out every time I view them.)
Me, I have a collection of AGs, Magic Attic, a Fairy which I forgot the company (short lived too), Global Friends (they didn’t open or close their eyes either but they didn’t freak me out) and maybe one more but not sure. I still have them and I refuse to sell them.
It really depends on the person.
wow! this world crisis thing is not something to laugh about! however, i do not particularly enjoy my twinns and MUCH prefer american girls of which i have 2 (Lila Ryder-just like you, and Jess of ‘06). But still, these dolls are nice, if u think, though som think they are FREAKKY
I DO NOT like my twinns that much, but it is still sad that these people will lose their jobs. I personaly think that ag’s have much more meaning: have a history, and that of course, they are for little people to play with. Plus, thay don’t look breakable and like you damage them easily. Also, compared with MT, they are easier to put away and hold, being only 18 inch!
