More Scoop on the Chrissa the American Girl of the Year 2009
I love my readers! You guys always find the best stuff. Here is a two page spread advertising the new American Girl Doll of the Year movie that will go with the doll. The title is Chrissa Stands Strong and will star Sammi Hanratty, Annabeth Gish, Timothy Bottoms, Don Franklin, Adair Tishler, Joanne Barron, Jennifer Tilly and Michael Learned. The movie is based on the Chrissa Stories by Mary Casanova.
The story will be about Chrissa Maxwell, a young girl who moves to a new school mid-year. She has to deal with making friends, dealing with bullies and standing up for yourself. Chrissa is a swimmer – which is where she has the most trouble with a rival. This looks like a great dvd and series for helping girls deal with real life issues – in school, in sports and even online.
The DVD comes out January 6, 2009.

Did you hear the rumor that they are making a best friend for the GOTY? Her name is either Lanie or Sonali since those names were trademarked at the same time as Chrissa’s name.

Chrissa looks like Ruthie? I guess she will be Ruthie with longer hair minus curls if they keep her eye color – but AG has been known not to be accurate with eye colors. I kinda hope that they give her the exact hair that she has in the pictures – its not quite as dark as Ruthie’s and I think its a beautiful color!

I think the GoTY dolls are why AG is “archiving” Samantha. They need to quit putting so much emphasis on the “modern” dolls and pay more respect to the Historicals, who are the reason the company’s here in the first place.

That’s weird that AG told you that, they told me: “We need room for exciting new products in our warehouse” and that they are planning on expanding Julie & the bitty twin’s collection.
And I heard Sam wasn’t selling well. I think all the reasons combined is why Sam is going to be gone.

OMG, i totally know 1 of the girls in the movie! She’s the girl in the first small pic standing with the girl in the polka dotted dress. she was in my little sisters class. she went to hollywood a while ago. when she came back her hair was died lighter. she told everyone it was for a movie she was in but she wasn’t allowed to talk about it. the rumor was that it was an AG movie but i didn’t believe it UNTIL NOW….OMG!!

I personally do not think a movie for GOTY girls is necessary. First off, it reminds me too much of Lindsey and Julie’s story. Second, I feel historicals should be the only ones to have movies. The other should not even be considered for movies. They got rid of Samantha because of this “new-fangled” Chrissa doll. I do not think she could ever in her life replace Samantha, and I do not support what the company is trying to do. I will read the book, but I will NEVER buy a GOTY movie.
It is my opinion that should not do a movie for GOTY girls . I believe historicals should be the only ones to have movies. They are dropping Samantha because of this new concept to lure girls in to the GOTY dolls like Chriissa and losing the true goal of american girl which is to draw younger girls to educating themselves in history. I also belive that Mattel will desimate the historical line and tuen the entire idea into a “barbie” type line. I DO NOT support what the company is trying to do. We will NOT be reading the books for any future GOTY dolls, and I will NEVER buy another GOTY doll nor will we be purchaing any movie from AG other than historical.

I hope she does have a swim rival. I have a close friend that is my swim rival. It can be tough on a friendship. It is bad that you cannot compete and still be friends. I really hate it, but i guess it shows who your real friends are. I guess what doesnt kill your friendship makes it stronger. I hope our friendship can get stronger as our swimming grows stronger. One of my biggest rivals on another team has became one of my best friends. I hope i get Chrissa Maxwell!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I suppose I am going to be the extreme minority here, but I think it royally sucks. The draw of American Girl was always the historical perspective. This isn’t historical! The movies have been so sweet up to this point, always dealing with a historical perspective and allowing us to see our favorite moments from the books. I was hoping to see that continue. This is nothing more than a marketing ploy and it stinks.

Hi, I heard that a few years ago AG retired Felicity and Elizabeth to make room to debut Kaya. And then they brought Felicity and Elizabeth back. I’m sure they are doing this again. They are probably going to bring Samantha and Nellie back, after they debut a new historical doll. Which they should bring a Jewish Historical doll and her history to the AG collection.
I think Chrissa is beautiful and her story is so important. I was bullied at my old school, even the moms were terrible. I left and went to a new school and everyone is nicer. I can’t wait to get Chrissa.
