So the press embargo has been lifted and those who got the press packets are now allowed to share what they know about McKenna, the American Girl of the Year for 2012. As I find information, I will post it here.
Let’s start with her collection.
This is a photo of her loft bed with a desk underneath it. The photo is from Bonggamom Finds and you can read more about the McKenna series and see more photos at her site. Some of McKenna’s collection include: a gymnastics leotard, a balance beam, a set of bars, pajamas, a cast and crutches set, and a loft bed with a desk under it.
Here is another photo I just found from one of her books that shows what I am pretty sure will be another one of her outfits:
This is the same outfit that showed up on eBay a while back (no, I don’t have the link anymore, but I did see it and it looked just like this). This photo is from Mommies with Style. She shows the book cover and two photos of interior pages – this one and one of McKenna climbing the rope wearing a gymnastics t-shirt – I’m pretty sure the t-shirt will also be part of her collection.

American Girl Doll Talk has a podcast interview with one of the American Girl PR Reps about the release of McKenna if you want to listen to that.
According to the Wall Street Journal, the McKenna movie is scheduled for a July release.

I wish American Girl could make the prices cheaper though. I thought that in 2012, they would put the prices down a little.
The loft bed is $225. I think that’s awfully high, too, CC. I won’t be getting it. It does come with a lot of accessories. A desk is built into it, of course, and there is a desk chair. There is also a floor cushion. There are 3 books, some gymnastic awards, the hamster and cage, mirror, lamp, alarm clock and a bunch of personal effects, like notes. It’s going to take up a lot of space. It pretty much has to go the floor because with the doll in the bed it will need about 2 1/2 feet high. I wouldn’t have any place to put it if someone gave one to me.
Toys R Us has a loft bed set for about $55 and if you can find coupons, it could be even less. It isn’t anywhere nearly as tall and does not have the accessories, but it does have a lot of furniture options and does not take up as much space. A doll can’t stand up under it. It’s not as well made as AG’s either. But I could fit it in my space if I wanted one, but I don’t.
i may get it for my sisters b- day to be a sweet sister but it’s awfully expensive for a b- day present what do you think?
has anyone gotten the american girl cataloge ?
Samantha- They describe a 1950′s girl, not a 1960′s girl.
I don’t know. I could get it but I’m not a kid. BUt it still is a big dent in my spending budget. I make 4 orders a year just during free shipping or other sales that make it at least free shipping in total cost, and I spend $300 each order or close to it. I don’t want it, so it’s not an issue. It’s more a parent present, IMO. I would think an outfit would be more a present for a sister unless you are an adult making a comfortable income.

You guys did you all here the big news? Molly AND Kaya are not in the new catolouge. The only wired thing is no Molly. I also noticed a bunch of Mollys things being retired lately. Do you think she and Emily are going to only be available online like what happened to felicity in 03-05!
i wonder if molly and kaya would expire then the two new girls(maybe) caroline and saba would replace them? although this would be a bad move for american girl in this economy.

I like the loft bed, but I think American Girl could’ve come up with something more unique for her big accessory. I mean, is a bed really that important to her story? Like the camper was to Lanie? Or the shave ice stand to Kanani? It is cool, but it seems like all American Girl comes out with now for big things are beds…

I doubt they’re retiring Kaya. They always leave her out of the catalouges- they did the same in other catalouges (leaving her out)

They leave Kaya out a lot so not a big shoker there. A lot of times Emily isn’t even featured, and Moly usually only gets 2 pages. I doubt Kaya is retireing she has only been here for about 9-10 years compared to Molly who has been here for 25-26 years.
If American girl were smart they would of made the accessories a separate purchase, so that you would have to order two things. They would be so overpriced as they are now, so I guess they could of gone either way. Buts it’s just like Lanie’s camper, if the sales go as well as they did on the camper they will have made a good amount at the end of the year…

common I want Mckenna to come out already. I have been refreshing the American Girl website all night waiting for her to come out. Just 20 more minutes. Come on midnight for Wisconsin. Im ordering right when the clock strikes midnight in Wisconsin. It’s only 9:41 here. I cant wait any longer. Im ordering her starter collection, her school outfit, her pajamas, her fancy outfit, her cast and crutches, and her rain gear. I am sooooooooooooo rush ordering Mckenna.

AG catalogs regularly leave out dolls. Sometimes the Bitty twins are left out, sometimes a historical. Doesn’t mean a thing. People have been prediction that Molly will be retired ever since Samantha’s retirement happened. So noone should be surprised if it happens, but that she and Kaya are not in this interim catalog isn’t a clue for that. Molly, Josefina, Addy, Kaya are all at risk. But then AG surprised a lot of people when they chopped Felicity instead of any of those 4.
I love her bed but I would hate to spend the money… I am saving up for a coach purse and it is the same price so I am torn. Does anyone know if it will get cheaper by the end of the year?
Actually Molly has never been left out. She also lost alot of her items rapidley last year so she HAS to be next. Kaya did not shock me because she was in alot of them last year. Mollys suspicious.

Suzi – free shipping codes are few and far between. They did one right before Thanksgiving this year.

Molly does not have her own page in the new catalog but she is not being retired. Everything is still on the website & in the store. They cycle items & dolls in & out of the catalogs. For the time being Molly is safe. But she is the next doll in line to be discontinued so if you want her start saving. But noone knows when that will be. & BTW who are Caroline & Saba????? We go to the store & get all of the catalogs, e-mails & updates, (we have 19 dolls) & have heard nothing about these dolls. However they did just release Cecile & Marie Grace a few months ago.
