Whew, that was a FUNNNNN day! We saw (and bought) the new American Girl of the Year, Grace, met up with some awesome Doll Diaries fans (Hannah & Sammie – you are the best!), had sushi for lunch (Wasabi at Tyson’s is soooo yummy!) and finished off the day with milkshakes at the AG Sweet Treats Bar. I took quite a few photos while we were at the store – as you know, lighting in there can be tricky, but I think you will still like this first set.
Meet Grace Thomas, the American Girl of the Year for 2015. She debuted today in American Girl stores and online. She is seen here in her Meet Outfit and her Welcome Gifts. Grace has long dark brown hair, blue eyes and freckles. She looks a lot like Chrissa and McKenna, but she is still uniquely her own and quite adorable.
Grace and her dog Bonbon inside her Bakery. It was pretty crazy at American Girl DC today and I could not get a really good photo of the whole bakery, but this gives you a good idea of what it looks like inside. This was at “girl level” and so many little girls were playing with the set up.
Grace in her Opening Night dress and the Bistro Set. Super cute accessories and I can see that girls will have a lot of fun playing with Grace’s collection.
Grace’s Pastry Cart. I just noticed that the surface of the pastry cart is identical to the top of Sweet Treats Bakery Case from 2007 (you can see it in this post).
Grace and her French Bulldog Bonbon. Grace is wearing the City Outfit which I just love. We got this outfit and will take more photos of it when we have better lighting.
Grace in her Travel Coat and her Travel Set. I love the light blue and the ribbon trim!
Grace’s pajamas may very well be my favorite AG pajamas released in a LONG time. I love the colors and the Paris doodles are just so much fun. Grace has bangs, but if you style her hair just right, you can create the illusion that she doesn’t have bangs.
Seriously? How cute is Bonbon? We did not get Bonbon today, but I think we will have to order her later. This is another look at the Bistro table and accessories. Grace’s story has an entrpreneurial spin on it – which I love – and I hope it inspires a new generation of business women who choose to follow their dreams and create a career around a passion!
Another look at Grace’s Opening Night dress. I think the shoes are my favorite part!
At AG DC, they have a small Bistro which requires a reservation most days. They also have a Sweet Treats counter where you can seat yourself and enjoy milkshakes, ice cream and other yummy treats. They had Grace on display at the counter. The charity that American Girl has partnered with for this year is No Kid Hungry – an organization founded to help end childhood hunger. You can participate in a Bake Sale to help raise funds for this organization – visit the For Goodness Bake page on the AG site.
Every girl who visits the American Girl store January 1-3 will get a Grace Thomas apron free. This is such a cute idea and I love it so much more than just the t-shirt they did for Saige and Isabelle. The apron even has two pockets.
They had three activities set up for the girls to do today – a scavenger hunt, this luggage tag activity and a cookie decorating activity. All three activities were free.
Yes, we purchased Grace today! In addition to Grace, we got her Welcome Gifts, City Outfit, Pajamas and we got her ears pierced. That big red box was an activity kit you could purchase for $10 in the Bistro. We didn’t eat in the Bistro, but they let us purchase it at the Sweet Treats counter. The kit contains a booklet, recipe box, cookie cutter and stickers. If you watch the video that Natalie did of our trip today, you can see what was in it more closely. Her video is at the bottom of this post.
A closer look at the apron, activity kit and her earrings. Speaking of her earrings – she does not come with pierced ears. We were able to get them done in the store for $16 and they came with a starter pair of earrings (silver star) and three pairs – an Eiffel Tower, red hearts and blue bows.
The lighting in our doll house at night is TERRIBLE, so you will need to check back tomorrow for more photos of Grace and what we got in better light tomorrow.
Natalie put together a video of our adventure today – I think you will like it!
Keep checking back in as we will be doing more photoshoots with Grace, sharing reader photos and adding activities, too!
