Karen here and I am sharing a tutorial for how you can make a Fun Felt Fringe Skirt for your dolls. I really love the new outfits that American Girl has just put out for girls in their BeForever line. Kaya’s outfit for girls is one I think is very stylish and would look great on the dolls too! To create your own doll sized Fun Felt Fringe Skirt you will need:

  • 1 18X12 inch piece of felt. I used a tan piece of Kunin felt.
  • Scissors
  • Needle
  • Thread
  • A small button
  • Aleene’s Fashion Fusion GLUE OR TAPE
  • A Marker
  • A Ruler
  • Your Doll

Step 1- Assemble all your supplies. Fold your felt in half along the long edge as shown in the photos above. Measure 4 inches from one end and cut all the way to the fold. Save the piece of felt you just cut for a future craft.

Step 2- Lay your doll on top of the felt and bring your two short ends together over your dolls middle. Your ends should over lap slightly. Make a mark with your pen to remind you where to sew your button on. Remove your doll from the felt and place her aside. Lay your felt flat again.

Step 3- Thread your needle and double knot the ends. Sew your button on to your skirt end where you made your mark. When your button is secure knot the thread behind the button and trim your thread.

Step 4- Once your button is in place. Fold your felt end with out the button over the end with the button. Use your scissors to make a very small snip. This will be the button hole and will hold your dolls skirt on. If you would like you can put the skirt around your doll to make sure it fits.Β  *If your skirt is too loose you can make another small snip in the felt further down.

Step 5- Lay your skirt flat, If you want a shorter fringe skirt like the one in my photo cut two inches off the long edge of your folded felt to shorten it. If you leave it the way it is the skirt will be past your dolls knees. Next use your scissors to cut thin 1/4 inch strips almost to the top of your skirt *along the top layer of felt only, leave at least 1 inch along the top, as shown in the photos above.

Step 6- Once you have cut all your fringe it is time to glue the skirt fringe top to the felt bottom. Unfold the felt and run a generous line of glue or tape along the fold edge. If you use tape it will be ready to wear right away. If you use the glue you will need to use a weight such as a book to hold the felt in place while it dries. Once dry your skirt is ready for your doll to wear!

I hope you enjoyed today’s tutorial and I want to thank Dacia of Mini Me Dolly Diva’s Etsy shop for sending me this wonderful shirt for my dolls.
