When I was shopping last week I couldn’t believe how tassels had found their way onto everything in the store! You name it, home decor, clothing, handbags, and jewelry. Wow, an explosion of tassels!!
I had to spread the tassel love today and make a fun and colorful mini tassel necklace for dolls!
Don’t be intimidated by this new fad, tassels are simple to make! I dressed ours up today by making it on a jump ring. No worries if you don’t have a jump ring because you can make it the traditional way with just thread. Let’s take a closer look!
Mini Tassel Necklace for Dolls
- elastic chord
- jump rings (optional)
- embroidery floss
- long nose pliers
Wrap the embroidery floss around a finger 5-6 times.
Carefully slip the loop of thread off your finger and lay it down.
We are going to gather the threads together with a jumping ring. Open the jump ring with the long nose pliers by twisting the ring open. (Do not pull the ring open.)
If you are not using the jump rings you can also take a small piece of thread and tie the loop of threads together at one end.
Attach another jump ring to the first.
Pull the loop of thread together to form the shape of the tassel.
Cut a piece of thread and wrap it around the tassel 3 times below the jump rings. Tie a double knot at the back.
Place the scissors in the bottom of the loop and cut the threads.
Trim the bottom of the tassel to be flat.
Now we have a mini tassel, ready to be attached to a necklace!
Thread a length of elastic chord to 11 1/2″. Tie the ends about 3/4″ from the end.
Add one tassel to a necklace or a group of three tassels.
Make yourself a matching tassel necklace using the same technique, just adjust it for your size.
Be on the look out, draw inspiration from trends around you. You never know when you’ll be inspired!
Enjoy your own version of the colorful mini tassel necklace!
