Karen here and I am so excited to share with you the dress I made for my dolls for this Christmas. I was inspired by all the tree dresses I saw on line. I heard there was even one in the White House Ladies Room! I set off to make my dolls dress from items you may already have on hand or that you can get at the Dollar Store or a craft store near you!

To make your own you will need:

  • 1 Large piece of Felt
  • Buttons
  • Ribbon
  • 15 feet of tree garland (I used dollar store garland)
  • A Glue Gun with Glue
  • A Needle and Thread
  • Rhinestones or Gem Stickers
  • Leaves from an artificial flower
  • Scissors
  • Pen
  • Wire Cutters
  • Your doll

Step 1- assemble all your supplies and plug in you glue gun. Undress your doll. Lay the large felt across your doll as shown in the photo above.

Step 2- Turn your doll over and pull the felt tight around your doll. Use a pen to mark where the two buttons should go, it should be fairly tight as you want to have the dress stay on under the weight of the tree branches!

Step 3- Sew your buttons onto your felt at the markings, carefully cut small snips on the opposite side of your felt to create button holes.

Step 4- Open and lay out your felt flat. If you want to have a sweet heart neck line line mine find the center of your dress and cut the “v” into the center of your felt. Begin cutting your garland pieces to 10 inches long. You can make yours longer or shorter depending on the dress length you would like.

Step 5- Find the middle of your dress and begin gluing on the cut pieces of garland, pressing them into the felt as you go. When your felt is full stand it up and make sure that none of the branches fall off. If they are loose you can add more glue and press them into place. Trim the felt that will be under your dolls armpit for a more sleek look.

Step 6-  Cut at least 15-20 inches from your ribbon spool. Find the center of your dress and add a dab of glue and secure your ribbon. If you are going to add the artificial leaf as I have you will glue it on top of the ribbon.  Arrange and glue your buttons into place.

Step 7- Add more glue and sparkle rhinestones or glue gems into place as I have.

Step 8- Add rhinestones to the top edge of your dress as I have. Once dry, place the dress on your doll and tie the ribbon into a bow at the back of the dress. If you would like to add more glue to the ribbon on the sides of your dress you can do that as well.

I hope you enjoyed today’s post as much as I did putting it together!
