Karen here wishing you a very Happy Valentines Day! Today I wanted to show you a fun way you can make a dozen roses for your dolls, a valentine bouquet just for your dolls! This is a very easy craft I know you will enjoy making year round. Change the color dye and change the look of the “roses”! To create your own you will need:
- -Coffee Filters
- -Rit Dye ( I used Cherry Red)
- Water/Craft Bucket
- Floral tape in green (from the craft isle of your dollar store)
- Tooth Picks
- Glue Stick
- Raffia or Ribon to tie your bouquet
Coffee Filter Dyeing.
Step 1- You will need to create a dye bath for your coffee filters, I usually dye a bunch of coffee filters while I am coloring other projects just so I have a stack on hand for “rainy day” crafts.
Coffee filters take dye really well and fast, so if you are a fan of dye projects keep a stack on hand. In your craft bucket I pour 1 cups of hot tap water 1 cap full of Rit Liquid Dye. If you want a darker color add more dye.
Step 2- Peel back the coffee filters from the stack and either dip them in the water mixture or submerge it is up to you! You can even put a stack of coffee filters in at one time and let the color work its magic between the layers.
Step 3- With Gloved hands, carefully remove the coffee filters from the dye bath and squeeze them dry, Separate the layers if needed and lay out to dry on a cooling rack or newspaper covered area. I let mine dry at least over night. Once dry they are ready to make into a dozen roses.
Step 4- Fold one of your coffee filters in half and then in half again as shown in the photo above. Use your scissors to cut along the fold edges giving you 4 pieces. Each piece will become one rose. You will need three coffee filters to make 12 roses.
Step 5- Fold one of the pieces you cut into a triangle as shown in the top right photo above. Use a dab of craft glue stick at the point and place a tooth pick in the glue.
Step 6- Begin to fold and roll your paper over the tip of your tooth pick as shown in the photo above. Twist the paper as you go to create a fuller bloom.
Step 7- Once your Bloom is in place unroll an edge from your floral tape and starting at the base of the bloom tightly wrap the coffee filter bloom to the tooth pick, covering it in green as you go. The heat from your hands will keep the floral tape in place. when you get to the end of your tooth pick, unroll one more inch of the green tape and cut or tear it off, wrap the excess tape around the tooth pick.
Once you have finished one rose move on to the remaining stems. Each bloom will look different and that is okay!
Step 8- When you have all 12 complete it is time to put your bouquet together, use raffia or ribbon to hold the blooms in place and then the bouquet is ready to give to your dolls!
I hope you enjoyed today’s craft and I look forward to sharing more doll craft ideas with you soon!
