The mini Circo Babies from Target make a perfect size infant doll for 18 inch dolls.  These babies are 8 inches long.  They are very inexpensive ranging $3-4 each separately or $9-24 in a set.  These babies can be purchased in a variety of skin tones.  Infant babies are mentioned several times throughout the American Girl books; such as Addy’s baby sister Esther, Felicity’s baby sister Polly, Kirsten’s baby sister Betsy, and the orphaned baby Phillip in the Marie-Grace & Cecile series.  Nelly and Ivy also have young siblings.  You could also use them to play out a babysitting service.  They offer a stroller, highchair & potty set, wash tub, car seat/carrier, cradle, bunk beds, rocking horses, exersaucer, and additional clothes.

The one item that the Target Circo Mini Baby does not have available is a changing table.  No nursery is complete without one.  I found two small wood craft boxes with drawers at Michael’s craft store.  One alone was not long enough for the eight inch doll.

The center four legs were removed with a small craft saw.  The two dressers were then glued together using Aleene’s Turbo Tacky Glue.   Once the glue dried I used fine sandpaper over the seams.

All seams were then spackled.  While the spackling dried I glued four one inch dowel caps over the remaining four bead legs.  The caps fit right over the bead legs.  I used these caps to add more height to the table.  When the spackling was dried, I re-sanded the seams.

Next, I used a thin rectangular dowel rod and cut it into two long and two short strips to create a bed for the changing pad.  Heaven forbid the pad to slip with the baby on it!  I had an old piece of foam and cut it down to fit into the railed bed which is about 8-1/2 inches long.  All pieces were glued and spackled.

Once everything was dry I spray painted the table in a satin apple green paint.  I used a fabric remnant and folded the material around the foam like a present and used a quick stitch to anchor it in place.  I recycled old doll sized bottles and using a label maker made baby shampoo lotion, and diaper rash ointment.

Now to stuff those drawers!  I made diapers using felt and small safety pins.  Download the pdf file with the diaper pattern.

Burp cloths were also made out of felt cut out in 4×6 rectangles.  Of course little sister, Dell, wants to get in on the action and help out!

Big sister, Bailey, is a beautiful Madame Alexander doll.  Little sister, Dell, is a Hearts for Hearts doll.  The Hearts for Hearts dolls are gorgeous 14 inch dolls that make perfect little sister dolls to any of the 18 inch dolls.
