A few weeks ago I did a post on the new dolls from Spinmaster, La Dee Da Girls who are expected to be the replacement to the Liv dolls, and at the time, we had not seen the La Dee Da collection in stores yet. Keyword YET. Yesterday we had to go to Target to pick up a few last school supplies as as I walked down the doll aisle I spotted Novi Stars, La Dee Da Girls and Cutie Pops dolls all side by side. It was immediately clear to me that Novi Stars are much cuter as cartoons than they are as dolls. Cutie Pops are, well, cute. They kind of remind of a cross between Lalaloopsy and Blythe. And then there was Dee and her friends the La Dee Da Girls. CUTE!
Dee and her friends are fashion designers who have their own special sense of style. They are sweet, fresh, and imaginative. Their make up is whimsical – it is not make up that any little girl I know would ever think of wearing, but for play, oh, it’s too cute! Same with the fun hair!
Meet City Girl Dee and her friend Tylie as Cotton Candy Crush making themselves comfortable on my shelf. I picked out Dee and Natalie picked out Tylie.
Let’s take a closer look at Dee. She is about 10″ tall and has a large head for her teeny tiny body – but I think she is just too cute. Dee’s hair is long and straight with red and metallic red highlights. She comes with a big red flower that you can velcro in her hair or on her dress. The red bow on her dress is also velcro and can go in her hair or on the sparkly part of her skirt. Dee’s outfit is a reflection of who she is, right down the city print and the pin cushion bracelet.
Dee comes with an activity book of ideas and a paper portfolio with three sketches that are also stickers. The portfolio is cute, but she can’t hold it.
A peek into Dee’s activity book that shows you some different ways she can wear her dress and the individual pieces of her outfit.
Isn’t her pin cushion bracelet just so cute? Her little blue shrug is also comes off and looks great tied like a scarf around her neck, too.
Dee’s feet are just tiny! There is no way she is going to be swapping shoes with anyone soon. Her shoes were held on with clear elastics when I took her out of her package and I think I may put the elastics back on as the shoes fall off pretty easily.
Dee has her own style right down to her makeup! One eye is done with Statue of Liberty inspired eye makeup as a hat tip to her favorite city. Again, I just think this is fun, not trashy at all.
One of the things I like best about Dee is that you can change up her look without even changing her clothes. Her stockings make great leg warmers if you just scrunch them down and pull the loop on the back of her skirt and her dress becomes a bubble style dress and gives her a sassy new look.
Isn’t that cute? I removed the shrug – her sleeveless dress has clear straps to help it stay up – pushed the stockings down for leggings, pulled the ribbon to give her a bubble dress and she has a whole new style.
Dee’s hair is pretty easy to brush and style. The wig is thin, but not horrible. She is posable, too, with bendable knees. She can sit nicely and has plenty of expression in her face. I forgot to take photos of her earrings, but they are little scissors and a sewing machine. Her hair constantly gets tangled in them and I think I am just going to take them out.
Natalie fell in love with La Dee Da Tylie Cotton Candy Crush. Her thick purple curls did it, I think. Tylie is dressed in a cute lavender ruffled gown with purple wedges and a cotton candy thing in her hair. (The chair she is sitting in belongs to our Groovy Girls but it fits Tylie perfectly.)
Tylie also comes with an activity book, some stickers and a small purple box of chocolates. Her hair is going to be a real treat though. I think the less it gets played with the better. It is soft but after two days of being loved and lugged everywhere in the house I can see great potential for matting.
Seriously, these two are just too cute for words! I can see us getting Sloane and Cyanne as well as some of the fashion packs at some point. I do not recommend these dolls for very young girls as I do not think they will hold up to heavy duty play due to the fact that they are so thin. However, for older girls who like this size doll, they are just too much fun.
You can La Dee Da dolls at Target and other major retailers, and of course, they are on Amazon, too, but note they are $19.99 in stores so don’t pay a penny more than that on Amazon! There are plenty available at the right price.

firstie! Cute!

Thirdie! I have peppermint pose!
they r kinda cute but dont think ill be getting one. I got 2 Our Generation dos yesterday for 2.99 each!
And its semi official IM GONNA MAKE A A CUSTOM DOLL!
WOW – what a deal on the OG dolls!
Cool Gail!!!!!!
I think I might get Dee. I think she’s adorable
I agree, that’s a really good price! I wonder iif some of the furniture pieces are on sale.
Those are my two favourites! But if I could only pick one it would be tylie.
These are actually cute dolls. I wasn’t sure but I might get one. First I need Cooper and McKenna’s Accessories.
dogs not dos lol
I saw them in Toys R Us a month or so ago. I really wasn’t to impressed actually. Maybe if I was the target age, or was more of a fashionista. I’m just not. I did, however, see the Novi Stars, and loved them. Maybe it was because of the outer space them. But they are too cute. Everyone has their likes and dislikes, and not everyone has to like the same doll, or get a doll that everyone has. Yet we are all brought together because we all like dolls in general.
Has anyone seen the Bratz Mystique dolls? Jade is beautiful!
I couldn’t agree more Evelyn! We all find different dolls that “speak” to us and that is what makes it so much fun – finding what you love.
How beautiful is Tylie! I’m officially saving up my money for her!
i got dee yesterday
Hey Char, is Tylie’s hair really bad? The first time I saw the commercial for the La-Dee-Da’s, I thought they were kinda dumb. But now I’m in love! I really like Tylie. Does she have a guide on how many different ways to wear her outfit to?
Tylie can only wear this particular outfit one way. If you are gentle with your dolls, her hair should be fine, but for a young child who wants to style her hair it will be tough.
Thanks Char! I’m pretty gentle with my dolls, so that should be great. Hmmm, that’s no fun! I could probably make her different outfits though. Thanks!
Amanda, I think you can come up with something. After seeing those suits, I am positive. I think your nickname could be, ” The Ever So Creative Amanda”.
Theyre SO cute!
Is it official that Spin Master is replacing LIV with these? I’m really surprised, since LIV seemed to be selling well.
I personally prefer LIV (the fun wigs, the “glass” eyes, the posability, their faces, being able to share clothes with Barbie, etc.), but that’s just my opinion. I guess I can’t see why Spin Master couldn’t have BOTH doll lines to appeal to different kinds of girls.
Aw, Delaney, your so sweet! Your super creative to. Your dollhouse blew me away!
Hey, Char, speaking of new dolls, they are kinda older, but have you ever heard of Crib Life dolls? I can do a review on them if you’d like!
i just love them! and canndy pops are cute too! i saw them on tv!
I love these dolls! I’ve wanted to be a Fashion Designer since I was 7 so this doll is perfect for me!
Thanks Amanda!
These are much cuter than the promo shots, definitely. I love dolls with a lot of imaginative play potential. They’d go well with some of the more whimsical Monster High girls. i agree with you re: NoviStars; i’d been looking forward to them but the reality is rather disappointing.
cute! i have seen these dolls at Walmart.
Charlie – I know, NoviStars are actually a bit creepy to me. But if other people like them, that’s awesome! We all have our different tastes. Like Evelyn said, find the dolls that speak to YOU, not anyone else : – )
super sweet! i’ve seen some of these dolls… cute but maybe a litle mature
April, what do you mean mature?
Oh, and I saw these dolls in Target today! SO ADORABLE!!! They are alot bigger than I pictured. I’m saving up for Tylie!!!
Aww theyre soo cute!! Char, do you know if the our genration dolls are any good?? I sort of want one but idk about quality
Char, could you do a review on the new Winx Club dolls? I might want to buy one.
I have not bought one yet, but my friend Emily did a review on the Winx Club dolls – http://www.toyboxphilosopher.com/2012/07/winx-club-believix-bloom-doll-by-jakks.html
Raine – some of them are cute and they make good friends for your other dolls. They are not horrible, but there are other dolls in their price range that I recommend more like Journey Girls or Springfield Dolls.
Is it just me, or does Tylie look a little bit like Effie Trinkett in The Hunger Games? Just me
Still SUPER cute, I love the red in Dees hair
Char, out of the two, do you like Dee or Tylie best?
I like Dee best and my daughter likes Tylie best.
Hmmm… I just can’t decide!!! They are both so adorable!!!
Call me crazy, but I think I’m starting to like NoviStars. I’m a sucker for tight purple bubble-gum scented curls!!!
Also, I love space. I think NoviStars is a very unique concept. They might just be added to my collection!
