One of our readers, Emily of Emily Rose, was lucky enough to see the Kit Kittredge – An American Girl movie already and has written a great review. From Emily -
I went to see this movie today with my parents and thoroughly enjoyed it. The film takes place is the 1920’s and a very difficult time in America’s history. The country is on the brink of The Great Depression when jobs are lost and people can’t pay their bills. Kit lives in a lovely house in Cincinnati and her Dad runs a successful car dealership. But times become tough and Kit’s world, and that of her family, takes a turn for the worse. Kit’s Dad needs to go to Chicago to look for work and she and her Mom need to make ends meet at home. To do this, they take in a selection of very different boarders; all with their own peculiar story. Kit also has her Tree House Club where she and her friends can plan all sorts of adventures and try to forget the problems they have. One of her interests is journalism and she wants to try her luck as a cub reporter. A first story she wants to write is about her friends who live on the edge of town in a hobo camp. When a spate of robberies is blamed on the hobos the story becomes more personal. Kit goes on a quest with her friends to solve the mystery.
This is a very sweet movie and well made. There seems to be more effort on this movie to make the story work and the characters more full than in the previous AG DVD’s. The story is believable and gives a tremendous sense of what it must have been like during The Great Depression. It is very cute to see Kit and her friends deal with their life and go out and solve the mystery together. I would recommend the movie for all AG lovers and girls aged 7 to12. By the way, I also think parents would love it.
We’d love to get more reader reviews! If you would like to write a review of the Kit movie or any other doll related movie, book or item, just send your review and how you want your name to appear to share@dolldiaries.com. Let us know if you took one or more of your dolls with you, were there lots of dolls in the audience, what did you think of the movie, what ages would enjoy it and so on.

Firstie! It sounds like a great movie! I can’t wait until I can see it, which probably wont be until it comes out on DVD.
I was just on Millie’s Doll Blog, and there’s an article saying that the next movie is going to be Julie’s! And that they are going to make it a musical! I’ll believe it when I hear it from AG.
The article was well written but 1.) The movie takes place in the 1930s and 2.) Kit doesn’t want to be a reporter for the Cubs, she wants to be a reporter for the Reds and whatever else she believes needs to be said.
i had a feeling julie would be the next movie
Yeah me 2! I sure hope so
I hope so, too. I could maybe pass for julie. If i wore a wig, wore brown contacts, and made my….freckles disappear… lol
Well, honestly, I hope they have a Kirsten movie coming out soon. I look just like kirsten, except i need a wig and make freckles disappear. But that’s it! and i seriously look just like her, but i just need longer hair lol and bangs
I don’t look like any of the American Girl characters. Molly would be the closest to me, I guess. I hope they make Kirsten’s movie soon, too, because she’s one of my favorite characters!
Yeah, Jess. I would look like Kirsten too with a wig. Lol
dont worry about the freckles. abby breslin (kit) doesn’t have them. thats a detail i first noticed when i heard she was kit
not the 1920s 1930! Gosh yea I’m audtioing for camp rock two, cause im taking singing lessons and ama good actress who can follow choregraphy with a nice resume (kinda)lol
Ashleigh, I’m sorry, but I think that’s balogna
So, I just got the latest news about an ag movie: The next one will feature Julie and Ivy and will b a musical!
I think I’m gonna email ag about it i promise ill tell you guys what they said. Please don’t go all Dr. Phil on me! lol
okay just emailed.
Okay, I got to go. Happy 4th of July! God Bless America!

One last comment: My Dreams, are not balonga…
listen to this: Now that the tween-girl-baiting Kit Kittredge: An American Girl is a limited-release hit (the $9 million Depression-era film starring Abigail Breslin opened last weekend in five theaters with $220,297, an impressive average of $44,059), audiences can look forward to its wide release on July 2 — and, naturally, a second movie based on the popular American Girl line of dolls. But who will release the sequel?
Warner Bros.’ Picturehouse division is releasing Kit Kittredge, but the label is due to get shuttered in October, which leaves the American Girl followup temporarily homeless. Some believe it will stay within the Warner Bros. family as a compliment to the studio’s Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants franchise, while others wonder whether Picturehouse head Bob Berney will be able to take it with him to his next endeavor. (Producer Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas says, by the way, that movie will center on the 1970s American Girl doll Julie, and that it’ll be a musical with a lot of disco and ’70s rock music.)
Warner Bros. was unable to shed any light on the project, and Berney says any decision is still up in the air. “Based on the opening numbers, I’m sure there will be another American Girl story,” he says. “It’s too early to tell if it’s Julie or another one, or how it’s going to happen. But the audience is there. There will be several American Girl movies.” Regardless of who releases them, that’s good news for the tween set. (Additional reporting by Carrie Bell)
I don’t think your dreams are balonga, Ashleigh! I say that if you want to act, well, go for it!
Listen, Ashleigh, I didn’t intentionaly mean it to sound that way, and I very much apologize. No one’s dreams are balogna, especially when it comes to the acting industry. It lets you express yourself. So, once again, I apologize. Please forgive me.
And if you think you can do it, go for it, reach for the stars! dont let ANYONE (including me
) hold you back. Chase even your wildest of dreams, and with faith and hope, they could very well come true. I believe in you.
I’m happy you apologized too
but I only said it was balogna when you said you auditioned for Camp Rock 2, only and ONLY becuase I thought there wasn’t gonna be one! Still, whatever you succeed at, Ash, I think you can go a long way
and don’t worry, we can still be e-pals ash
btw srry i caused all this drama
and i understand now that zoe puts it that way. I too want to be an actress, but I think the industry would be too harsh on me. I’m only a tween! And with my anxiety disorder and autism (very small case of autism, that is) I don’t know how anyone can accept that.
Okay, here I am
