Kit Kittredge Movie Review by Zoe

Thanks to another Doll Diaries reader, Zoe, for submitting her review of the Kit Kittredge movie.

I went to see Kit Kittredge: An American girl tonight and I absolutely loved it! I thought it was great to see the book/doll character I love come to life on the big screen.

Kit Kittredge is a ten-year-old girl growing up in very hard times: The Great Depression. Her father owned a car dealership in the beginning, but after losing his job, heads off to Chicago to find work. Kit is very disappointed and a bit ashamed, but she keeps herself busy helping her mother with the boarders and working toward her dream of becoming a reporter in print. From evil editors to monkeys, Kit deals with them all, even if it means taking risks and being bold.

Kit is portrayed beautifully by Oscar Nominee, Abigail Breslin who played the roll with such emotion, it got me crying (or laughing) with her! The cast also included Julia Ormond (as Mrs. Kittredge), Chris O’Donnell (Mr. Kittredge), Madison Davenport (Ruthie) and Zach Mills (Sterling).

I recommend this to everyone (even you guys out there!) it’s encouraging, inspiring, and everything in between! So go see Kit Kittredge – An American Girl today! What are you waiting for?

We’d love to get more reader reviews! If you would like to write a review of the Kit movie or any other doll related movie, book or item, just send your review and how you want your name to appear to share@dolldiaries.com. Let us know if you took one or more of your dolls with you, were there lots of dolls in the audience, what did you think of the movie, what ages would enjoy it and so on.

listen to this: Now that the tween-girl-baiting Kit Kittredge: An American Girl is a limited-release hit (the $9 million Depression-era film starring Abigail Breslin opened last weekend in five theaters with $220,297, an impressive average of $44,059), audiences can look forward to its wide release on July 2 — and, naturally, a second movie based on the popular American Girl line of dolls. But who will release the sequel?
Warner Bros.’ Picturehouse division is releasing Kit Kittredge, but the label is due to get shuttered in October, which leaves the American Girl followup temporarily homeless. Some believe it will stay within the Warner Bros. family as a compliment to the studio’s Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants franchise, while others wonder whether Picturehouse head Bob Berney will be able to take it with him to his next endeavor. (Producer Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas says, by the way, that movie will center on the 1970s American Girl doll Julie, and that it’ll be a musical with a lot of disco and ’70s rock music.)
Warner Bros. was unable to shed any light on the project, and Berney says any decision is still up in the air. “Based on the opening numbers, I’m sure there will be another American Girl story,” he says. “It’s too early to tell if it’s Julie or another one, or how it’s going to happen. But the audience is there. There will be several American Girl movies.” Regardless of who releases them, that’s good news for the tween set. (Additional reporting by Carrie Bell)

  7. Ellie on July 5th, 2008 5:15 pm

I want it to be Kirsten too!

  8. Jessica on July 5th, 2008 6:39 pm

  11. Ellie on July 5th, 2008 6:45 pm

  13. Caitlin on July 5th, 2008 11:24 pm

When I was younger and had bangs I was Samantha’s twin, and now I look just like Ruthie. If I was like, three years younger I could have played her! (I’m 15) I’m not sure which movie I want them to make next, not Julie though. Probably Addy or Kirsten. Kaya would be interesting too.

  14. Ellie on July 6th, 2008 7:10 am

I do sort of look like Ruthie, but my hair isn’t curly and my eyes are bluer.
I really hope they have Kirsten’s movie next – not Julies. Julie already has a best friend doll, too!
Caitlin – I’m 15 too! I’m only a couple of days into it, though. lol.

  15. Ellie on July 6th, 2008 7:10 am

I said that I looked like Molly before but I think I look more like Ruthie.

  16. Alexandra on July 6th, 2008 1:59 pm

i look most like mia, but before that, emily, then before that, nellie! but mia’s definitely most like me! I layered my hair over her’s and no one could tell who’s hair was who’s. I also figure skate- and wanted to go to that mia thing at rockerfeller center. but we couldn’t though :(

  17. Zoe on July 6th, 2008 2:43 pm

Oh, that’s 2 bad, Alex! I look nothing like Mia, but I have her and I love her! I probably look most like Emily. I think Ruthie shouldve had auburn hair, then we’d look so much alike

  18. madi on July 6th, 2008 3:00 pm

all of my family members say i look like samantha when my hair is straitened which i dont understand at all.

  19. madi on July 6th, 2008 4:20 pm

you know because her hair is curly?

  20. Jessica on July 6th, 2008 4:44 pm

ya, I have brown hair and deep mahogony eyes. I look most like Josefina, except my skin isnt her skin color; mine’s white. So, I really wanna get Kit! Zoe promised that if she won, she’d give me kit! 2bad there’s no barnes n noble near us. It’d be SOOOOO wierd if we both won! lol rite Zo-Zo?

  21. Zoe on July 6th, 2008 7:31 pm

    Yeah, Jess

  22. Zoe on July 6th, 2008 7:31 pm

Jess, you look like Jess! LOL

  23. Jessica on July 6th, 2008 11:24 pm

hey, I do, don’t I? 2 bad I don’t have a Japanese heritage! But Zoe and I DO have Irish heritage in us. In fact, our gr8- gr8- gr8 grandparents most likely escaped the potato famine of Ireland. However, we have no proof.

  24. Sara on July 7th, 2008 6:36 am

My gr8-gr8-gr8 grandparents also escaped the potato famine too! See, my nana, my mom-mom, and my mom and my family are all Irish, Scottish, and British, cept for my dad. On my dad’s side of the family we’re German, Italian, and Serbian. There’s a bad secret from my dad’s side of the family. His (my dad’s) ancestor killed the Arch-Duke Franz Ferdinand and his wife Sophie. They were from Austria-Hungary.

  25. Zoe on July 7th, 2008 12:30 pm

    Cool!

  26. Jessica on July 7th, 2008 5:23 pm

That can NOT be true. I don’t believe that, I’m sorry. I just think that it’s highly, HIGHLY unlikely. IDK exactly who killed him, but what I do kno, that’s EXACTLY what caused WWI. So if your dad’s ancestor killed Archduke (it’s actaully FRANCES) Ferdinad, then, well, your ancestors started the war… wow. That’s quite something to accomplish…. this is all out of respect, k?

  27. Zoe on July 7th, 2008 5:39 pm

All I can say is huh?

  28. Jessica on July 13th, 2008 12:20 pm
