Our dolls are upstairs practicing for their next gymnastics competition, but while they are getting their workout in, I wanted to share this super easy, FREE (always good) “how-to” with you. I am not sure I would really call this a craft, but since it does involve tape and scissors, you might think so.
To make an award podium for your dolls you will need:
- 2-3 American Girl (or other boxes)
- Tape
- Scissors (to cut out numbers)
- Numbers 1, 2, 3 (I made it easy for you – click here to print out the same numbers I used)
STEP 1 - Find a large box to use as the base. We used the box that McKenna’s gymnastics equipment came in.
STEP 2 - Place a smaller box on top. We used Chrissa’s Craft Table box and turned it sideways.
STEP 3 – Print out the numbers 1, 2, 3 from the file I linked to above. Then cut the numbers out.
STEP 4 - Tape the numbers on to the boxes as shown above.
Place your gymnasts, swimmers, ice skaters, track stars, talent show winners – or pet show winners in their appropriate places on the podium and you are done!! Easy!
In first place we have Gwen, second goes to Sonali and third goes to Alex. All three of them are wearing the retired purple velour leotard from American Girl.
I better go see how practice is going!

I really like it Char! Its a neat idea.
Its a great way to reuse boxes. Love it!
AWSEOME!
cool!!! first to say fristie!!! LOL!!!
I LOVE the leotards!!!!!
Is there any big difference between a sleeveless leotard and a longsleeve leotard?
Typically the girls wear sleeveless leotards for practice and long sleeve leotards for competition.
thanks Char!
char, i was wondering is the mcenna doll out? thanks!
Yes, we just don’t have her yet
Char, have you decided if you plan on getting McKenna?
We probably will, but it will be later in the year.
So fantastic, now why did I not think of that it is brilliant!
SOMEBODY’S been inspired by Karen :p
Char, where did you get the leotards the dolls are wearing and the medal Gwen (IS THAT EVEN GWEN???) is wearing? Also the flowers?
WHHOPSY! Didn’t read the bottom of the last pic…!
Also, shouldn’t 2nd place be a little higher?
ninethie!!! I think…. ‘-_-
Great idea!!! you can also use american girls doll boxes to make beds. the boxes they come in can be stuck together with the lid as a wall behind and the bottom of the box gets flipped over for the bed you can see a picture of it that my sister samantha entered in your photo contest http://dolldiaries.com/pet-parade-january-reader-photo-event/sam-reading/
sorry long message :p
12thie cool but what should I use because i don’t have those boxes?
Very sweet idea! This will really be needed with the Olympics start this summer!
cool idea. Hayley look to see if you have any boxes that are close to the same size. and your could tape clothe onto it.
Karen you should do a craft for a doll trophy.
Allyson you can also make a bunk bed with AG doll boxs. I made them but i took them down.
you can find youtube videos on how to do it its super easy.
Erica w- thanks I think I will use my chrissa box and lanies hammock box
cool 7thie but i dont have any big boxes buti do have to gymnast dolls kanani and ashly ( myag #55 ) and soon hopefuly mckenna
Vallorey777- ur 12 thie
Good job, Gwen! You’ll get it next time, Sonali! You did your best, Alex! I love that! I’ll probably use ordinary boxes for it.
Erica-thanks for the idea of the bunk beds i made them before but they didn’t turn out so good but while i was searching you tube i found a video for a triple bunk bed it looks really awesome me and my sisters love the idea and have been playing with there new beds all day.
This is really cute! I will make it when I get some boxes because I’m not allowed to use my american girl boxes.-_-
oh right hayley good call
That is really cute I’m going to make a smaller version for my figures.
