My older daughter has been collecting Barbies since she was little and each year she asks for the Holiday Barbie for Christmas. In the past few years she has also taken an interest in some of the designer Barbie’s like the Lily Pullitzer Barbie and special interest ones like the college cheerleader Barbies. I decided to try out the Barbie Collector club last year and have found it to be a very good value for Barbie enthusiasts – for a $35 membership fee you get a welcome gift (last year was a silkstone dress form), exclusive doll offers and my favorite part – a $20 store credit every quarter. The $35 is well worth it.

With our most recent credit we ordered the Aloha! Hawaii U.S.A. Barbie®  from the Dolls of the World series. Apart from the fact that this doll is very pretty, there is something unique about her – she doesn’t have SHOES! That’s right – she is sold barefoot and does not come with shoes at all.

When we opened the box, there was a catalog, our Hawaiian Barbie, a letter and a luggage tag with the various Dolls of the World on it. While I like some of the dolls from that collection, some are just so-so. The Hawaii Barbie was the one we thought was prettiest and most unique.

The Hawaii USA Barbie doll is ready for a luau with her floral lei, bikini, and traditional raffia “grass” hula skirt. Her set also includes a “passport,” country stickers, her sea turtle  friend and a brush. Her hair is down with the exception of two small side braids. She has the Shani body type and the Lea Kayla face sculpt. I like that Barbie Collector site provides collectors with these details.

Her box is super cute – looking like a pink suitcase! One of my favorite features of the box is that you can just open it to see your Barbie without the plastic cover.

Depending on what Barbies you collect, this Pink Label series is fun. I like the detail in Hawaii’s outfit over some of the others and I love the uniqueness of her not having shoes! We’ll keep this sweet girl in her box with some of the other collectible Barbies we have, but it is nice to be able to easily get to her, too.
