As most of you know, there are many, many brands of dolls, specifically 18″ play dolls and within the 18″ doll space there tends to be two types of dolls – slim body and American Girl style. While both types are 18″ tall, they can not share many of their clothes. One of the things we try to do at Doll Diaries is help determine which dolls can wear which brands so you can get the most value from your doll purchases.
Last week, frequent contributor Madelon, found FAO Schwarz 18″ dolls on 50% off sale at her local Toys R Us store. She bough Avery, who loves horseback riding, has a dark brown bob style haircut and soulful brown eyes. The FAO 18″ dolls are made by Gotz.
For $30, I think Madelon got a great deal! Essentially she got a doll and two complete outfits for the $30 – that’s amazing – especially since Avery is still listed at $60 on the FAO website. Avery comes dresses in riding gear including a hat, ascot style shirt, jacket, riding jodhpurs, and boots. She is packaged with a second outfit consisting of a shirt, modern cut jeans and cowboy boots. Too cute.
Avery was so happy to get out of that box and spend some time with her horse!
A closer look at Avery’s jacket and shirt underneath.
The inside of her riding pants have suede patches inside the knees and lower leg.
Avery looks at ease in her everyday outfit.
The FAO Schwartz 18″ dolls are SLIM BODY dolls. Meaning American Girl dolls CAN NOT wear their clothes. The FAO girls can share clothes with Carpatina slim body dolls and Journey Girls though.
This is my Kyla doll from Journey Girls that I bought at Toys R Us back in June. She is wearing an 18″ doll outfit from FAO and it fits her perfectly! Erin, our slim body Carpatina doll, was wearing the same outfit earlier. You can see her wearing it in the Day 43 of Doll Play post.
Kyla look so good in this green I just had to take a few more photos of her!
I would like to thank Madelon for sending in the photos of Avery! And I hope this post was helpful to you in knowing what 18″ doll can share with each other.
Have a great afternoon!

Firstie! I’m personally not a huge fan of the doll, but I love her outfit!
Secondie
Thirdie! I like her.
4thie!
Fourthie not a fav but love the horse
Very nice!
I have a ballerina (no name) that shares a body sculpt with the TRU FAO dolls. I’ve been dying to get a horseback riding one, but I’m kinda broke at the moment.
I love the plaid shirt, and I usually hate plaid.
Now I want one!!!!!!!!!!!
Just so you know- the riding pants are supossed to have those patches because real pants have them and riding pants should fit snugly and not be wrikled.
I’ve seen these dolls on the fao website, I really like claudia with her little glasses.
Cute! I don’t really like the doll’s face mold but her outfits are adorable!
cool!

I wish they weren’t slim-bodied… But thanks anyways! This is the first time I’ve ever seen this doll!
glittergirlz04– You can usually find fun foam at craft stores or craft sections at stores like Fred Meyer or WalMart. It’s great stuff!
so pretty!! she just looks a little sad in my opinion, but still gorgeous!
Raine – Ellowyne isn’t so much sad as she is just BORED. Typical teenager really. Go to WildeImagination.com and you can learn her backstory and a little more about her line.
