I hadn’t really planned on making anything for the dolls last night, but Megan came downstairs with a pair of Forever 21 jeans that she had outgrown and with a hole in the knee and she asked me what she should do with them. I told her to give them to me and I would do something with them. It took me all of five minutes to come up with the first idea.
Ta-da! A no sew denim skirt that literally took me 2 minutes to make and I didn’t have to spend any money! Chrissa is our model and she is wearing a hat by Mini Me Dolly Divas, McKenna’s sweater, her new jean skirt and shoes by Madame Alexander. She is posing on the My Dolls Life Reversible Playscene runway, too.
Start with a pair of jeans that have some stretch to them. These are Forever 21 jeans that are on the thin side, have plenty of stretch and only cost $11 to start with. (FYI – Forever 21 jeans are super comfy according to Megan and at $11 you can get 3 pair for the price of one pair at Hollister on sale!) The ankle opening on this pair of jeans is 5″ across when laid flat. Not all jeans will work as no-sew, but you could adapt this idea to leggings or any pant with a finished hem and some stretch to it.
Measure how long you want the skirt to be and cut straight across. I made the first one a little long so I had to roll the waist a bit, but the second one I got right. You can roll the waist out like this or fold in inwards to create a better line if you have a shorter shirt. And you are done!
Another look by Chrissa. This time she paired the skirt with a flannel tunic from Springfield Dolls.
Marisol goes for a cozy look with her AG winter vest and a long sleeve shirt. She is wearing McKenna’s shoes but I don’t think they really match this outfit. I’ll find a different pair for her later today.
So, before you throw away a pair of jeans, leggings or other clothes you may think have seen their better days, give them a second look – you may be able to give them new life as fashions for your dolls.

firstie!
I once made a doll skirt, a doll cape, and a doll jumper out of my favorite pair of tinkerbell jeans that looked non-dorky (I was told that Disney was dorky in middle school). They looed gorgeous
Wow! I’ll do this with a pair of jeggings (I can’t stand jeans!).
that’s so cute!
My mom had an old green sweater and she let me cut it up. I made a skirt, top, dress and vest!I made a whole new doll fashion trend out of an old sweater!
That looks really good!
Great job!
~K~
I do that with my old jeans too!
so cute!!!
Cute! Some of my smaller dolls are wearing orange tie die at the moment because my mom was about to throw out one of my old tie die shirts.
Awesome! I have a couple pairs of old jeans and I’ll make this!
Very clever!
Old clothes=cheap doll clothes!
The Most Adorable Idea Ever!
Thank you, Char!
too cute! too bad i all redy have something like it!!!
Pretty Irish AG: I totally agree! In my house, if a piece of clothing can’t be handed down to someone and it’s not so worn-out as to go straight to the trash, it goes into the scrap basket for doll clothes– especially if it’s a good weight or has a pattern that would work well on a small scale.
Cute. I love sewing! And also not sewing
if it makes clothes.
I have an old purple striped boatneck. Might make the Salina dress out of it because I can’t bear to throw it out. Nor can my sis, who loves it so much. If I ever got Gwen, I would make her a tunic out of it, like in Chrissa Stands Strong
Or Saila
There’s a Forever 21 inside of Tyson Corner’s mall that I’ve never been inside, but the outside is just lovely. I believe it’s the one with the pink bike outside and those lovely windows.
I’ll have to check it out someday {I have always wanted to, you’ve just given me more reason to remember}.
I love making old clothes into new doll things!
Making doll clothes out of old clothes of yours is a good way to keep a memento of a favorite item you’ve grown out of, too. It’s especially fun if you make it to look like the original.
I got a great idea! Char, you cuffed the top (on accident, LOL) but if you wanted a casual look, you could fold it on the bottom for a cuffed skirt! Maybe you could fringe one too, IDK.
Oh this is so CAH-UTE! This idea was also in AG’s Doll Travel kit, except to make a dress out of leggings!
Pretty Irish AG: OMG, How dare those kids say Disney is dorky. I LOVE Disney, and so does my sixteen (and a half) year old sister!
I actually have not picked up the AG Doll Travel Kit yet – is there anything else good in it? Is it worth buying?
I got the school kit set and it is 100% adorable! Im almost done with a school, I’ll send you pictures when its finished!
Yeah Iris+Mckenna, AND how dare the teacher got along with them! Plus I was close to giving up yoga and Celtic Woman. But at the same time, Disney made me who I am
Disney rocks! I’ve loved it since I was a baby! Have you seen how many adults visit Disney for special occasions? A lot! How dare they.
Yeah. I kinda want to be part of the magic
Me too, Pretty Irish AG, me too.
Disney rocks! If I have time (haha, hoho, hehe, in other words, much later) I will sew Disney dresses for my dolls. I have the limited edition Snow White Doll and a vintage minnie Mouse doll.
I like it ! Great idea . Now i have something to do when im bored ! Where did you get the runway?
The runway is from MyDollsLife.com – you can go to their site and pre-order it now.
so cute!
I have like 10 pairs of jeans and I don’t even wear 6 pairs and i didn’t know what to do with them but now I do.Thanks Char!:)
I LOVE Marisols outfit!!:)Super Cute!
