Doll Play Day 24 – Celebrate International Fairy Day

Break out the fairy dust, today is International Fairy Day! For today’s 100 Days of Doll Play activity I will show you an easy way to make fairy wings for your dolls.

LMM fairy wings

Our Little Miss Matched Girl, Hadley was our fairy wing model today! Making fairy wings for your dolls is super easy.

Start with a base – these are a few ideas:

  • Pipe cleaners (chenille stems)
  • Craft wire
  • An easy to bend wire hanger

Add a way to hold the wings on:

  • Ribbon
  • Elastic bands
  • Pipe cleaners

Make them sparkle by covering your wings with:

  • Shiny wrapping paper (like I did)
  • Strips of cellophane or tissue paper
  • Aluminum foil
  • Strips of plastic wrap

Add a few extra gems, glitter or bling and you have fairy wings your doll will love to wear.

how to make fairy wings

To make fairy wings using pipe cleaners, start with two pipe cleaners in the color of your choice. The ones I used are 12″ long and when all was said and done, they were a bit small for the 18″ dolls but are perfect for 12-16″ dolls. If you want to make them for the bigger dolls then you need to use longer pipe cleaners or twist two together to make a longer one.

Step 1 – Make each pipe cleaner into a circle shape and twist together to keep them in one piece.

Step 2 - Make arm straps by looping your elastic bands around the center or you could use ribbon.

Step 3 - Shape your fairy wings into what ever shape you think will work best for your design.

Step 4 – Cover your wings with wrapping paper, cellophane, aluminum foil, or even an old pair of tights would work. You can glue it, tape it or wrap it depending on the material.

Step 5 – Add any embellishments you want to customize your wings.

I made the wings! Although I made them a little differently. Aww very sweet. I saw brave today, i liked it but i wish it was more about merida herself and not her and her mom. I feel merida could have been more kick butt if it had.

Emma – I saw BRAVE, also. I went with a friend. It was really good, and I, too, loved the storyline, and it had a great message.
