Dollie and Me Madame Alexander doll

Since today is Molly’s birthday and she wants to be the American Girl in the spotlight, I decided to feature our newest doll, Lucy as the Doll of the Day. Lucy (the name one of our Instagram followers gave her) is an 18″ partial soft body doll made by Madame Alexander for Dollie & Me (they are both owned by Kahn Lucas) and sold at Kohl’s, Sears, and a few other department stores. When we found Lucy we were just browsing at Kohl’s while my son was shopping for spring clothes. I found a handful of Dollie & Me dolls in the back corner of the toy section and Lucy was the only “schoolgirl” left. As soon as I saw the red glasses and long straight hair with a side part I had to have her!

Lucy came dressed in a blue and white tiered skirt, blue striped top, red cardigan, tights, red high tops and red glasses. The red really works well with her coloring, but photographing dolls with glasses on can make their eyes look weird in a way.

Lucy’s hair is silky smooth and soft. I absolutely LOVE the side part. Once Lucy made herself at home, something really odd happened … we realized that she looks more like me than any other doll in our collection. I have long brown hair that is parted to the side which I usually straighten and I have glasses. I may just need to get a pair of red glasses next – it is my favorite color (just ask my kids – red car, red iPhone, red wallet, red  spring jacket, yep, I like red!).

If you read Diana’s photo tips earlier today, you can see what she is talking about with getting the lighting right when it comes to your doll’s eyes. Lucy has one normal eye and one crazy eye in this photo because of the way the light bounced off her eyes. Even still, you can really see what a pretty face she has.

This is a closer look at the pattern on her skirt. I like all three main pieces of her outfit and they will be perfect for mixing and matching.

If you have a Kohl’s or Sears store near you, keep your eyes open for the Dollie & Me dolls – they are a good value and they make great friends for your other 18″ dolls. One note of caution, if the doll is for a younger girl who wants to do a lot of playing with the hair, stick with a doll with straight hair and store her standing up. This will save you a lot of frustration!
