Today I am going to teach you how to sew a keepsake pillow for your doll using Longitude and Latitude co-ordinates! If you are new to sewing, you may need an adult to help you with this project.
Have you ever traveled somewhere that you really liked and wanted to remember? I have been lucky to travel to many fun places and I think making trip memories into doll sized throw pillows with the names of cities and their longitude and latitude locations adds to the whimsy.
To make today’s craft you will need:
- The name of a city or place you live or have visited and wish to remember (or a place your dream about going)
- The Longitude and Latitude of that city I got mine from
- a Sharpie or American Girl Doll Fabric markers
- a pattern piece of 5 inches by 3 inches
- two pieces of non stretchy fabric cut to 5 inches by 3 inches of either muslin, broadcloth or canvas.
- a sewing machine
- sewing pins
- a small amount of stuffing
Step 1– Cut out your fabric using your pattern
Step 2- write your city name and do a small design if you wish on one piece and then write the longitude and latitude of your city on the back as shown.
Step 3– place your fabric ” with right sides together”, with the writing facing each other and pin as shown
Step 4 -sew a straight line down one side of your fabric and then repeat on two other sides leaving one side not sewn.
Step 5– your pillow should look like this. Now remove the pins and turn your pillow inside out
Step 6– now it is time to stuff your pillow. Add your cotton batting. Do not over stuff or your pillow will be hard to sew closed.
Step 7 – pin your stuffed pillow closed as shown, folding in the edges of your “raw” edge so that the edges do not fray
Step 8– sew your pillow edge closed
Step 9– continue sewing around your pillow creating a border as seen in the photo above
Step 10– give to your doll to enjoy!
I hope you enjoyed today’s post I look forward to sharing more crafts with you again next week!
