This week my niece Beth was visiting on her Spring Break. We spent some time working on my Doll Diaries Craft and we had a blast creating Easter Hand Puppets for our Dolls.
These are easy felt puppets you will love making.
To make your own you will need:
- Felt (we used dollar store felt in White, Gray, Yellow, Pink and Orange
- White Pompoms for Bunny Tail
- Craft Glue or Glue Gun (Glue Gun Glue is hot and dries quickly if you choose this method have an adult help you)
- Scissors
- Googly Eyes
- Black Sharpie Marker
- Pencil
- Paper
Step 1– Trace your doll’s hand onto a piece of paper
Step 2– Create and cut out a template on paper for your puppet that is ½ inch wider than you are tracing and in the shape of an oval as shown in the photo above.
Step 3- Fold over your felt so you can cut a front and back at the same time. Cut out your shape.
Step 4– For a Bunny Puppet cut out two ears from your felt in the same color as your bunny’s body, then cut a strip of pink for each ear.
Step 5– Run a line of glue along the edge of your puppet shape as shown. Carefully press the ear shapes into the glue at the top. Be sure not to glue along the bottom edge.
Step 6– Run a line of glue down the center of the ears and place your pink on the inside.
Step 7– Run more glue over the bottom of the ears and place & press the front of your puppet to the back
Step 8– Cut a pink triangle for your bunny nose and glue into place
Step 9– Glue the eyes into place
Step 10– Use your black marker to draw on your whiskers
Step 11– Turn your puppet over and add a dab of glue. Press your pompom into the glue for your bunny tail.
To create a Chick Hand Puppet for your doll you will need to repeat steps 1-3 as above
Step 4– Cut a small orange diamond shape from your felt. This is the beak of your chick.
Place a line of glue where you want the beak to go and fold your felt in half then press into the glue, creating an open beak look.
Step 5 – To make your Chick look like she has just hatched, cut a jagged piece of white or brown felt to look like a shell for the bottom, and glue it to the front of your Chick Puppet. Then cut a top out of felt for her head. Top with a bow if you wish.
Step 6– Run a line of glue along the edge of the bottom of your puppet and then cover and press the top of the puppet in place. You can decorate your puppet any way you want, add hats, bow ties – the works, it is all up to you! Be sure to leave the bottom open for your dolls hand.
Once dry you can put your puppet on your dolls hands and create your own Easter Puppet Show.
Today I used my:

That’s weird…
Rachel – we have 23 American Girl dolls and a variety of other dolls.
Because I clicked the wrong check box. I will go fix it.
Too cute – looks like fun, I may make one for my Jane doll! Thanks for the info. : )
I think the Harmony Club boys are so cute. That looks like a fun craft as well.
Great craft! Next time the grandsweeties come over, we’re going to try it. They are able to stitch on felt, so I think we’ll sew ours for durability.
Thanks everyone, we had such fun making it!
Super cute craft. I love your Australian doll I had to check out the website for myself. Thank you for sharing. The chick in an egg was my favorite.
