Doll Craft - make doll sized apples

This time of year is one of my most favorite. My sister and her family always go apple picking and this year I think we may just go as well. For today’s craft I thought it would be fun to show you how easy it is to make your own oven bake polymer clay apples. If you have ever wanted to work with oven bake polymer clay but have been hesitant to try here is a step by step tutorial on a very “healthy” dolly treat!

Doll Craft - make doll sized apples

To create your own doll sized apples you will need:

  • Oven Bake Polymer Clay in Red, Green and Brown
  • Wax paper
  • A baking sheet
  • A butter or craft knife
  • An oven
  • A toothpick

Step 1– Cover your work space with wax paper. The darker color polymer will color may color your unprotected work space.  Use your craft knife to cut your dough into six equal squares.

Step 2– Work the dough between your fingers and the palms of your hands. The dough will be stiff to begin with but will soften up with the heat of your hands. Work the dough into 6 equal balls.

Step 3– To shape the balls into more of an “apple” shape hold the ball between your fingers and gently press the sides of the ball in so that it is not a perfect ball.

Step 4– Repeat step 3 on all six of your ball shapes. Your hand may turn red as mine did. Once you are happy with your shapes wash your hands! If you do not at this point wash your hands the color may transfer to the lighter color we are going to work with next.

Step 5– Open your green clay and remove a small amount of dough. Work it in your hands into a small flat circle.

Step 6– Use your craft knife to cut small triangle shapes from the circle.

Step 7– Shape the triangles between your finger into a leaf shape.

Step 8– Use the pointed end of the tooth pick to draw veins on your leaf.

Step 9– Repeat steps 6-8 on all six leaves

Step 10– Use your tooth pick to create a hole in the top of your “apple” this is where you will slip the leaf in. Repeat this step until all your apples have leaves.

Step 11– Create the stem by taking a very small amount of the brown clay as shown in the photo above and rolling a snake shape. Use your craft knife and cut away stems that are  about ½ inch long.

Step 12– Use your tooth pick to press one end of the stem into each of your apples.

Step 13– Place your apples on a wax paper lined baking sheet and bake them according to the directions on the side of your polymer clay package. Store your left over clay in a zip lock bag for future use. Once baked let your dolls apples cool completely before play!
