Today is Walking the Dog Day according to Hallmark’s Ultimate Holiday Site and in honor of this day I thought I would show you an easy way to make your collars and leashes for your dolls’ pets so they can enjoy a Dolly Dog Walk anytime.
To make your own dog collar and leash you will need:
- Pipe Cleaners
- Duck tape, ribbon, felt, fun foam or paper
- Sticky Back Velcro Dots or Sticky Velcro you can cut to fit your collar
- A ruler
- *clear nail polish
How to make a Ribbon Collar
Step 1– If you are using ribbon, wrap it around your dolly dog’s neck to measure the length be sure to leave about ½ an inch overhang as shown in the photo above.
Step 2– Put a sticky back Velcro dot together with the backings on as shown.
Step 3- Cut your sticky back Velcro into smaller pieces, so that it will fit on the dog’s collar.
Step 4– Peel the backing off one side of the small Velcro piece and place it on the dog collar as shown in the photo above.
Step 5– Trim any excess.
*Brush the ends with clear nail polish to prevent ribbon fray
How to make a Duck Tape Collar
Step 1– Cut off 8-10 inches of tape from your roll and place it face up on your workspace.
Step 2– Fold one side of the tape in towards the middle and smooth it out.
Step 3– Repeat on the other side
Step 4– Wrap the “collar” around your dolly pet as shown in the photo above
Step 5 – Place the sticky back Velcro facing each other with the sticky side backing still in place, then trim a piece of your Velcro to fit on the collar.
Step 6 – Remove the backing of one of your sticky back Velcro and place it on the color as shown above.
Step 7 -Remove the other side and fold over the other end of your collar as shown in the photo above. Press down where you want the Velcro to match.
Step 8 – Trim the excess
You can make your dog collars out of any ribbon, tape, paper, felt or fun foam you have on hand.
How to make a Dog Leash
Step 1– To make the leash you will need a pipe cleaner. Make a loop to feed the dog collar through on one end of your pipe cleaner leash. Twist the ends to hold your loop in place.
Step 2– Put your collar through the loop you just made and put the collar on your dolly dog.
Step 3– Make a larger loop at the top of your dog leash for your dolls hand. If you are using duck tape, cover the loop end with the matching tape to your dog’s collar. If you did not use duck tape, then twist the loop closed.
Now your doll is ready to take her dogs for a walk!
