How to make doll shrinky shamrock earrings

St. Patrick’s Day is just around the corner and I wanted to make a craft inspired by Girl Guide Camp Crafts I did as a child. We used to make shrink plastic charms to exchange at our Girl Guide Camps and Jamborees, so I thought it may be fun to make Shamrock charms that would work as dangling earrings for our dolls with pierced ears and would make great pendants for dolls who do not have their ears pierced.

To make todays craft you will need:

Step 1– Remove a page of Shrinky dink paper or shrink plastic from your package and have an adult pre heat your oven to 325 F

Step 2– On your paper freehand draw a shamrock

Step 3– Place your shrink plastic paper over your drawing on the paper, with the rough side up. Trace your Shamrock on to the Shrink Plastic and color it in. Make two if you are making earrings or one if you are doing only a pendant.

Step 4– Cut out your shamrock shapes leaving room at the top so you can punch some holes.

Step 5– Use your hole punch and punch three circles out near each other to create a larger hole around the top of your shamrock, when it shrinks it should be the correct size to put your earring through or thread through a string or ribbon for a necklace.

Step 6– Line a cookie sheet with a paper bag and place your shamrocks on top and have an Adult help you put them in the oven

Step 7– Watch the oven carefully as your shape will begin to shrink. This may take 1-5 minutes. Once it has shrunk and curled up it will then uncurl. Remove it from the oven and allow it to cool completely.

Step 8– When it is cool to the touch, put your dolls earing stud through the hole and place it in her ear as shown in the photos above.

If you are making a necklace you can thread through your ribbon at this time.

Have your doll model her new earrings and her favorite green outfit!

This week I have used my American Girl Doll Chrissa, a dress made by a friend and boots by Mena Bella’s Etsy Shop.

Have a great week!
