Do your doll’s have a horse? Today’s craft will show you how to make easy hay bales for the horses out of materials you probably have on hand.

Doll Craft Hay Bales for Toy Horses

To make your own you will need:

  • Paper
  • Empty soap or band aid boxes
  • Glue
  • Tape
  • Natural raffia
  • String
  • Scissors
  • Paint brush for spreading glue
  • String or Yarn

hay bales for doll sized horses

Step 1- Cover the boxes with paper. Tape or glue into place.

Step 2- Add glue to your box and then wrap raffia over the box ends as shown.

Step 3- Continue to wrap and add glue or tape into place. Wrap ends and then box as shown in the photo’s above.

Step 4- When you have wrapped your boxes and are happy with how they look, wrap a piece of yarn or string around you hay bale and tie in a knot, trim the edges. I used two strings on each hay bale. Let dry.

Step 5- Now your hay bales are ready to share with your dolls horse. The strings will help your doll hold and carry the hay for their horses.

I hope you enjoyed today’s craft I look forward to sharing more crafts with you next week .

Today’s modle is Maplelea Doll Saila; Saila’s clothes include a peasant top I made, pants made by my friend Skippysmom from a Liberty Jane Pattern, and shoes by Harmony Club Dolls. My dolls’  horse (I call Pickles) is from the Newberry Collection at Sears from 2011 which came with a sled.

  12. Gretchen says:

My cousins and I were having an AG Horse picnic and we rubberbanded some Mini Wheats together. (We threw them out after)

  13. Skye says:

Cute! To bad I don’t have a horse. I GOT CAROLINE, he BIRTHDAY DRESS, and HER ACCESSORIES for my birthday! I also got THE NIGHTSTAND!

  14. StoryTeller says:

I love it! It really looks like a haybale, but without the mess or allergy problems of using actual hay!

Claire– Target has some pretty nice Our Generation horses. They aren’t fuzzy like the AG ones, but they have more variety and they’re about half the price.

  15. Alicen says:

I really like this idea! You could make this for smaller dolls by using smaller boxes, if you wanted to.

Claire- Our Generation has cheaper and maybe even better quality. So does Madame Alexandra. Madame Alexandra is the cheapest, I believe. Also, Our Generation comes with lots of accesories. (I own one myself.)

  16. Raine says:

    I really want a horse :(

  17. Delaney says:

Cool! I have a horse, so I might to it! Where can you get the raffia? I’ve never heard of it before and I have a few ideas for crafts :-)

  18. elise says:

I really want a horse, but this craft is still so cute and easy! At pottery barn kids, they have inexpensive horses for 18 inch dolls.
