Anna here!  Things are getting festive around here with holiday earrings and necklaces made of… yes, it’s true… buttons!!   Buttons Galore has shared some button love with the Doll Diaries team members this week.  Crafting is where buttons and dolls meet because they are such a great size for dolls!

This little jewelry set includes a pair of earrings and a necklace.  If your doll is like Julie and doesn’t have her ears pierced, then no worries, you can make them stick-on earrings!

I chose to use decorative buttons for the jewelry sets, but any type of button would work for this craft!  So get out your buttons and let’s make some doll jewelry!

Let’s take a look at what we’ll need.

Let’s talk a minute about buttons.  Both of the buttons I chose today are decorative buttons.  The more standard buttons you might think of are the ones with 2-4 holes on the front or the type with a shank on the back.  Both of these types come in a variety of colors, shapes and sizes.  Taking a closer look at buttons, you might see some fabulous “doll jewelry” in any type of buttons!

Cut the elastic chord to the length of the necklace you want to make.  Thread the buttons on the elastic chord and tie the chord ends.  You are done!

Start by placing a button on a piece of thread.

If your doll has post earrings, we need to stretch out the hole in a sequin so it will fit over the post.  Run a thick needle through the center of the sequin.

Place a small amount of glue on the back edge of the sequin.

Holding the thread together, place it across the dab of glue.  Trim off the extra thread.

Gently work the post through the sequin hole.  If your doll’s ears are not pierced, use a glue dot on the back of the sequin to attach the earrings.  Repeat and make a second earring just like the first!

Little buttons transform into little jewelry sets for dolls!

I think these would make nice homemade gift sets!  Or what about a matching girl and doll jewelry set?  I’ll have to keep that in mind…I’m working on a few doll gifts for this Christmas!

Just in case you are interested, here is a little more about today’s post.

  • Dolls– Julie is an AG historical character, and Morgan is AG #25
  • Outfits– I made the red dress similar to this one.  Here is the AG Soft-as-Snow outfit.
