A few weeks ago during Camp Doll Diaries, Callie was modeling a super cute cupcake apron. The apron was the perfect way for me to use my Laura Kelly cupcake dies from Sizzix and my Sizzix Big Shot machine.
Isn’t that just too cute?
- White doll apron (you can purchase one in our Etsy shop)
- Felt or fabric in the pattern of your choice – I used two different patterns of Kunin Felt
- Sizzix Big Shot (you can also cut out your shapes by hand)
- Laura Kelly Cupcake Die from Sizzix
- Tulip Puff Paint
- Aleene’s Fabric Fusion
While I used my Sizzix and Laura Kelly dies, you can use any shapes you want to decorate your doll apron.
Start by assembling all your supplies. I cut out two cupcakes using the Laura Kelly Cupcake Die on my Sizzix Big Shot. The cool thing about the Big Shot is that you can cut just about anything – paper, fabric, felt, cardstock – you name it – in one quick motion.
The hot pink Kunin felt I used for the cupcake base is super cool – it has an adhesive back on it already so all I had to do was cut the shape, peel the backing and stick the felt to my apron. You can use Aleene’s Fabric Fusion sheets, fabric glue or sew your first layer onto the apron. There are no real limitations – use what you have.
With the second cupcake, I followed the lines in the die to separate the bottom of the cupcake from the “frosting” to create the cupcake wrapper. This layer does not have the self adhesive on it so I used Aleene’s Fabric Fusion to stick it to the cupcake base.
Using Tulip puff paint, I outlined the “frosting” to give the cupcake some dimension and to make it look more inviting. You can add buttons, glitter, sequins – you name it – to give your cupcake a unique finish.
I felt like the apron was still missing something so I used a piece of the adhesive felt to make a trim stripe and a little star to finish it off.
What do you think? Oh, and those cute Doll Diaries lollipops in the background of the first picture – visit Laura’s Lollipics site to get a custom order of your own.
Callie loves her new apron! And I am totally hooked on my Sizzix!! I want to Sizzix everything – I have been using it to create fun homemade cards, these cute aprons, tags for gifts and even some gifts for my teacher friends. What should I make for the dolls next?
