Disney Announces New Princess
When I saw the announcement that Disney is introducing its first new princess in 10 years, I was excited. My daughter loves all the princesses and their stories. They are very diverse and beautiful in their own ways. The fact that this new princess, Tiana (originally it was reported that her name would be Maddy), is black is really not here nor there as far as I’m concerned – she is beautiful!
She will be the lead character in the 2009 animated release of The Princess and the Frog (The Frog Princess), an American fairytale set in the French Quarter of New Orleans. The musical will be scored by Randy Newman and I’m sure it will be an instant hit.
UPDATE: This Disney masterpiece will be hand drawn. Voices cast for the film include: Anika Noni Rose as Princess Tiana, Jenifer Lewis as Mama Odie, and Keith David as Dr. Facilier.
The Princess and The Frog, especially its lead character Tiana, will quickly become one of the most popular birthday party themes, and her toys and games will be hot this holiday season too. Here are some of our favorites (click on image for ordering info).

YEah! I AM excited about a new princess of color! In my household, we have varying shades of children (foster kids, adoptions)- my youngest will be happy to see her color reflected in Disney style.
I am delighted that we are going to have a Black Disney Princess. It’s about time!! I can’t wait to see the new princess themed Barbies come to Toys R Us.

im not happy about the new princess i dont like her at all.
im thrilled with the new disney princess, its been a while since something new hit the shelves of toyland.
the new princess is even more beautiful than the others before her.
I am so happy finally having a girl with some color is great I love mulan and jasmin pocahonta it is about time they thought of doing an african american princess.
im excited for a new disney princess! they are my favorites. but i dont see why everyone is making a huge deal that she is black. Pocahontas wasnt white either. i really like tiana’s hair though i dont remember having a princess with such curly hair. its really pretty i think its about time disney made a new princess. i mean who doesnt love those movies
Disney Princess’s are supposed to be classics. like snow white for instance, i think its very exciting and nice that you are bringing out another but you have the design all wrong, you always make new princess’s hair look really 90’s and you need it to look more classic like sleeping beautys and the dresses are always really cruddy. Its that kind of rubbish design that puts kids off the toys that you make once the films a big hit. and making a huge deal about the doll being black is going to annoy people. I think walt disney would be ashamed if he saw this. it will just be another let down like that home on the range film, you should actually make a charector that will be remembered and not because it looks funny ot weired but because its beautiful just like the proper disney princess’s instead of making hundreds of really poor quality and non entertaining cartoons and computer films.
I AM SO HAPPY ABOUT THIS NEW PRINCESS MY DAUGHTER IS GOING TO LOVE IT ESPECIALLY BECAUSE MY DAUGHTERS NAME IS TIANA AND SHE LOVES THE PRINCESS’S SHE WILL THINK IT IS SO COOL THAT THERE IS ONE WITH THE SAME NAME I CAN NOT WAIT!!!

wow im so excited!! i’ve always loved tinker bell and little mermaid, but FINALLY they’ve come out with a disney princess that is dark!! cause i’m dark and my name is maddy! so it’s like perfect! i love it love it love it!
Yay!!! I have loved all of those disney princesses since I was 3! and now,even though I’m 13,the magic still comes to life every time I watch them! a new princess! i have pictures of all of the princesses and I’m so glad about the new one,I can’t wait til It comes out
A new Disney princess is delightful. I have always felt cheated that no Disney princess has really looked like me. It is insulting because Disney has been around for sooo long. So many people of all colors support Disney and buy Disney products. Why has it taken so long ? The people who have made comments about her being “black” is not a big deal, You must not be black because if you were, you would understand the significance of it. IF you still don’t get it, then I would strongly recommend you review your American history books.I have waited 37 years for a black princess……… ITS ABOUT TIME!!!
