Disney Announces New Princess

Maddy the new Disney PrincessWhen I saw the announcement that Disney is introducing its first new princess in 10 years, I was excited. My daughter loves all the princesses and their stories. They are very diverse and beautiful in their own ways. The fact that this new princess, Tiana (originally it was reported that her name would be Maddy), is black is really not here nor there as far as I’m concerned - she is beautiful!

She will be the lead character in the 2009 animated release of The Princess and the Frog (The Frog Princess), an American fairytale set in the French Quarter of New Orleans. The musical will be scored by Randy Newman and I’m sure it will be an instant hit.

UPDATE: This Disney masterpiece will be hand drawn. Voices cast for the film include: Anika Noni Rose as Princess Tiana, Jenifer Lewis as Mama Odie, and Keith David as Dr. Facilier.

    YEah! I AM excited about a new princess of color! In my household, we have varying shades of children (foster kids, adoptions)- my youngest will be happy to see her color reflected in Disney style.

    im excited for a new disney princess! they are my favorites. but i dont see why everyone is making a huge deal that she is black. Pocahontas wasnt white either. i really like tiana’s hair though i dont remember having a princess with such curly hair. its really pretty i think its about time disney made a new princess. i mean who doesnt love those movies

    Disney Princess’s are supposed to be classics. like snow white for instance, i think its very exciting and nice that you are bringing out another but you have the design all wrong, you always make new princess’s hair look really 90’s and you need it to look more classic like sleeping beautys and the dresses are always really cruddy. Its that kind of rubbish design that puts kids off the toys that you make once the films a big hit. and making a huge deal about the doll being black is going to annoy people. I think walt disney would be ashamed if he saw this. it will just be another let down like that home on the range film, you should actually make a charector that will be remembered and not because it looks funny ot weired but because its beautiful just like the proper disney princess’s instead of making hundreds of really poor quality and non entertaining cartoons and computer films.

    Yay!!! I have loved all of those disney princesses since I was 3! and now,even though I’m 13,the magic still comes to life every time I watch them! a new princess! i have pictures of all of the princesses and I’m so glad about the new one,I can’t wait til It comes out
