Kit and Ruthie headed down to the Arts and Crafts center this afternoon to make a few classic camp crafts! Camp Leader Samantha had given them each a choice of projects. Ruthie chose to make a clothespin butterfly and Kit wanted to make a pompom friend.
Let’s start with Ruthie’s butterfly. You will need:
- Wooden doll pin – also known as a rounded top clothespin
- A piece of fabric or felt 2″ x 5″ (ROUGHLY)
- A Sharpie marker
- 3″ piece of pipe cleaner
- Glue
Step 1 – Turn your clothespin so that the opening is side to side.
Step 2 – Using your Sharpie, draw eyes and a mouth on the round part of the clothespin.
Step 3 – Take your fabric and fold it back and forth to make a fan.
Step 4 – Insert the folded fan of fabric into the clothespin slot.
Step 5 – Flip the butterfly over. Fold the pipecleaner in half and roll the ends slightly to make antennae.
Step 6 – Glue the antennae to the back of the butterfly’s head.
Ruthie loves her new butterfly and can’t wait to hang it in the cabin.
Now to make Kit’s fluffy little friend! You will need:
- A large pom-pom
- A small piece of fun foam
- Googly eyes
- Embellishments
Step 1 – Cut out a heart from the fun foam to use as your fuzzy friend’s feet. (Say that 3 times fast – haha)
Step 2 – Glue your pom-pom onto the fun foam.
Step 3 – Add Googly eyes and any embellishments you want.
Kit and Ruthie spend a few minutes admiring each other’s projects before heading back to their cabin for a little rest before dinner.
Have a great evening! More Camp Doll Diaries fun coming your way tomorrow!
Cuteness!
Adorable! I love pompuff friends!
Love them!
Cute! I love the pompom critter!
aww how cute!
I used to make pompom critters all the time! I never even thought of making some for my dolls! :O
I love it! And i am doing camp a little different now.. My dolls instead of being at camp, just have crafts daily! I call it crafting hour. It is just an idea for people who like me, don’t want to change their room or not do it this way for a certain reason. That’s why I may not enter the photo challenge this week. My dolls aren’t AT camp doll diaries. But, i’ll just put a set up 🙂 Sorry if this is unrelated…
I will have to do this!
so cute!
Char can . I send in pictures of the little miss match store at disiney
Char, did you get my email?
My campers and I just finished the pom-pom friend craft. So awesome!
Char, I was wondering if you got my questins about the 3 dolls.
Char – How do I get my photos on my own post on this website?
Awwww! Cute!
I wanna make the fluffy friend badly! Unfortunately, I have no googly eyes!
OH! Cabin #25 will have to do this! (We have a Kit and Ruthie also!)

Melody – I did but haven’t had a chance to reply
Adorable! I love the little pom pom friend. 🙂
Too cute! I’ve done both of these projects w/ my kids at school. For the butterfly, we used coffee filters, “tie-dyed” w/ food coloring for the wings. For the pom-pom guys, we cut bare feet shapes w/ foam or contruction paper.
Sharry – me and my friend did the butterfly’s the same way at an art fair!
These are both such cute crafts! My Jane loves butterflies and can’t wait to make one, and the pompom friend will be so much to make.
Thanks, Char! : )
Cute!
Oh I love the pom pom critter. The little girls will love this when they come to the camp at my house.

I am not sure I did – what is it about?
