Today I thought I would share with you one of my most favorite summer time crafts, painting rocks to make rock pets for your dolls. Over the years I have made these rock pets for my garden and even given them as gifts to others. There are so many wonderful images you can paint on rocks today I show you how to make a Lady Bug Pet Rock and Painted Rock Play Set for your dolls.
You will need:
- A small rock (a ball of clay would work as a substitute)
- Red Paint
- Paint Brush
- Black Permanent Marker
- Googly Eyes
- A glue gun or glue dots
Step 1- Select your rock, you can find them while you are out walking, in your garden and even your dollar store. Make sure it is clean and dry when you start.
Step 2- Squeeze a small amount of your paint onto a scrap piece of paper. Use your paintbrush to cover one side of your rock. Let it dry and repeat on the other side.
Step 3- When your paint is dry use your glue dots or glue gun to attach the googly eyes. Let dry if using your glue gun.
Step 4 – Once your rock is dry, use a black permanent marker to draw your lady bug’s spots and a line down her back to show where her “wings” are.
Step 5 – If you want to make this into a painting play set for your doll as I have done in the photos above. Have a grown up help you trim your paint brush down to doll size, let the paint in the ends dry. Let the paint remaining on your paper dry and cut it into an artist palette. Use a tape loop to help your doll hold her rock pet as I have done in the photo above.
Today I have used my Springfield Doll Maria for the photos.
Have fun being creative with this one!
